The mission of our staff development is to enhance the professional competence of our staff and to provide a variety of programmes to support them to become proactive and life-long learners.
 

Int'l Conference on ICT in Teaching and Learning cum 15th Web Symposium

The 2011 Int'l Conference on ICT in Teaching and Learning cum 15th Web Symposium was hosted in our school on 12 July 2011. The theme this year was ¡§Education Unplugged: Mobile Technologies and Web 2.0¡¨. To support this theme, Apple Learning Academy ran a workshop on ¡§Mobile Technology using iPad in Teaching and Learning¡¨ on 12 and 13 July 2011 in our school. Many scholars and educators including Mr. Kenneth Chen Wei On, JP, the Under Secretary for Education, attended the events. All our teachers participated in these events. This was a very good opportunity for them to learn new technologies for teaching and to exchange views with scholars and professionals from different schools and institutions.


A Sharing Session on "Enhancing the Learning and Teaching of New Senior Secondary Curriculum with Mobile Learning (Liberal Studies, English Language and Literature)"

A seminar was held on Wednesday, 13th April, 2011, to share the outcome of different partner schools in our Professional Development School Project - ¡¥Enhancing the Learning and Teaching of New Senior Secondary Curriculum with ¡¥Mobile Learning¡¦. It was delivered by teacher representatives from St. Paul¡¦s Convent School, CCC Fong Yun Wah Secondary School, Islamic Kasim Tuet Memorial College and Law Ting Pong Secondary School. All presenters had explained how they employed the latest mobile technologies to enhance their teaching and learning. Principals and teachers also expressed their opinion and feedback during the Q & A session. It was a fruitful afternoon.

 

Catholic Schools Middle Managers Training Camp

Four teachers participated in the Schools Middle Managers Training Camp held by the Catholic Religious Schools Council on 18 and 19 March 2011. It was a 2-day-1-night camp which aims to provide an opportunity for middle managers in Catholic schools to reflect on the key management roles and responsibilities in taking forward the schools¡¦ vision and mission while maintaining high standards of performance of the school. It was an intensive, yet joyous and fruitful, training for all the participants who were urged to respond to God¡¦s calling to be servant leaders in their schools.


Edexcel International Conference

One of our teachers was among the 200 educators who were invited to attend the Edexcel International Conference on 16 March 2011 in Hong Kong. The ultimate goal of the Conference was to highlight the educational needs of schools in 21st century. It was successfully achieved through the insightful panel and round-table discussions.


School Visit by teachers from Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School

On 21 February 2011, 36 teachers from Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School visited our school to have professional sharing on lesson observation. They observed lessons of the three core subjects and participated in a post-lesson observation sharing. They enjoyed the professional exchange and had a wonderful and fruitful morning.


21st Century Learning Conference HK

A group of teachers representing different Key Learning Areas (Science, Mathematics, English, CSL, Humanities, Liberal Studies and Information Technology) have attended the 21st Century Learning Conference HK in West Island School on 18-19th February, 2011. The Conference brings together educators from around Hong Kong and Asia to share their visions, experiences and challenges on the use of technology to enhance learning with digital technology. It comprised of 4 Keynotes speeches, 40 Classroom Workshops, Open Forums and exhibition booths displaying the latest IT products by the corresponding vendors. It was a very fruitful experience.


"Re-designing Schools for the 21st Century"

On 18th December, 2010, some of our teachers have attended a Staff Development Seminar - "Re-designing Schools for the 21st Century", organised by the HK Direct Subsidy Scheme Schools Council. The Seminar was conducted in our school by Ken Walsh O.B.E. who is from England and is the Associate Director of the Specialists Schools & Academic Trust and the Associate Consultant of Cambridge Education. In the Seminar, Ken shared with us examples (including software and hardware ) of how schools in UK are re-designed to meet the need of the 21st Century. He also emphasied the importance of blending formal and informal learning to encourage students to be more creative, to think critically and to commuicate effectively using technology. The seminar was very useful and innovative.


GCE Academic Trainings

In November and December 2010, our teachers attended 4 training sessions on GCE Accounting, Biology, Chinese and Applied ICT conducted by examiners from Edexcel. The aim of these trainings was to bring into focus the issues, which include planning of the course, preparing students for examinations and monitoring the coursework, concerning the GCE AS and A2 curriculum of each subject.


Differentiating the Curriculum and Instruction for Gifted Learners
On 26 November, 12 teachers attended the thematic workshop and lesson demonstration namely ¡§Differentiating the Curriculum and Instruction for Gifted Learners¡¨ which was organized by The Hong Kong Academy for Gifted Education. The workshop was conducted by Dr Sandra N. Kaplan from The University of Southern California. 21 Paulinians participated in the lesson demonstration session. The seminar and the workshop were inspiring and our staff had a fruitful day.

English Teaching Workshops

Two experienced Canadian educators, Ms Gloria Fung and Mr. John Wood, organized a series of school-based staff development programmes on English Teaching at our school Student Centre from 1st November to 5th November 2010 . The workshops included classroom management and teaching pedagogy. There were 4 teachers from our English Department and 6 teachers from Guangzhou participated in the programme.

Staff Development Day on 30th August 2010
On the30th August 2010 we had a staff development programme in Rm G7. The programme focused on updating teachers¡¦ information on the recent development of the New Academic Structure (NAS). Teachers found that the programme has kept them informed of the latest development and implementation of the NAS in our school.

Interactive White Board Training Session

On 20th August 2010 our new teachers joined an IWB training session in the Humanities Room. The session was conducted by Ms Chu from the Educational Technology Connection Ltd. Teachers found that the session help them master the technique in using the IWB more efficiently.
