The Music Teacher

Miss Wu wai sum Nancy is a graduate of St. Paul's Secondary School and obtained her B.A. in Music from the Chinese University of HK. In 1993, Miss Wu was the champion of the Chinese Solo Singing section of the HK Schools Music Festival. She was also the first runner-up in the overall open section and was awarded the Barbara Fei Scholarship. She has presented several recitals at the Chinese University and staged a number of performances in HK at Shatin Town Hall and City Hall. She joined St. Paul's Convent School in 1995 as a music teacher.

Miss Wu's contributions to St. Paul's include: participation in the annual HK Schools Music Festival with outstanding results, the CD production of "The Gift of Music", the staging of the 'One Voice Concert' with the Edina Concert Band, USA, the successful implementation of the 'The Budding Composers' project and the Musical 2000 "School of the Future" project.

Due to her devotional efforts in making the first original musical for SPCS highlighting the mission of teachers, Miss Wu was recommended by her principal, Sr. Margaret Wong, to help in the Teacher Advisor Scheme charged by the Chinese University of HK teaching young music teachers for consecutively 4 years. Her talents in writing the script, the songs and the lyrics are also recognized by the CASH association of HK, where Professor Chan Wing Wah entitled her to be a registered composer.

The Musical 2000 has been partially restaged in 2001 when students of St. Paul's visited the Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, USA. In all, the success of our musical was a well-known fact and unprecedented in Hong Kong's educational sector. The performances at the APA Drama Theatre, the production of our second CD in the Music Room and the interviews by TVB and Cable TV on our students have made our dreams of making an original extravaganza come true.

In 2001 Miss Wu also finished her teacher¡¦s diploma at HK Baptist University with a distinction in her subject. She then obtained Merit in her Master Degree of Choral Conducting two years later. After winning the Merit Certificate of the Global Youth Singing Contest in 2008, she made her first recital at HK City Hall Drama Theatre. Now she is the founder and teacher of the Music Volunteers and the voice coach of Hong Kong Youth Symphonic Orchestra Chorus. She makes public concerts for free in Wanchai or Sai Wan Ho Civic Centres every year in Summer.
