Students' Achievements 2008 - 2009

Olympic Sport and Literature Competition 2009
In July, the Olympic Sport and Literature Competition 2009 was held. Students had to present works within an original plot based on one of the Olympic themes of ¡¥excellence¡¦, ¡¥perfection¡¦, or ¡¥Friendship¡¦.
The writing competition is organized every four years by the China Hong Kong Sports Association Olympic Committee. Christie Chow, 2P, and Vanessa Leigh, 1A, received a Merit award and $800 each for their stories. Loretta Fan, 4S, won 2nd Runner-up and a cash prize of $1500 and Renee Yeh, 3S, won the Champion and $3000 cash for her creative story entitled A Friend Who Believed. All the winners also received an IOC trophy, and an IOC diploma and souvenir. Well done to all the winners!

¡§Fly to Space Fly to Beijing¡¨ Aerospace Model Building Competition

We are honoured to announce that Terranda Yeung of 4L, being the representative of Hong Kong SAR, had won the National Championship in the "Fly to Beijing, Fly to Space 2009" National Youth Aerospace Model Building Competition which was held in Guizhou (¶Q¦{) in August 2009. Congratulations!


The 24th Annual Book Report Competition
The 24th Annual Book Report Competition was held towards the end of the academic year. The good news is that Karman Leung of 6U received the Merit Prize of $300 and a Macmillan Dictionary in the English Senior Section. Karen Wong from the same class won the Championship prize of $3000 and a dictionary and certificate for her book report on Life of Pi. Congratulations to both girls!

Iron Man of Science Competition 2009 organized by the Faculty of Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Kati Lam of F.6P and Janice Wong of F.6A participated in the 11th Iron Man of Science Competition held on 24-25 July, 2009. Sixty Form 6 science students from 46 secondary schools gathered at The Chinese University of Hong Kong to compete in the contest. Kati attained the Mini Iron Man award and the best logo design award. She was presented a medal and a certificate. Congratulations!

Hong Kong 2009 "I Love Hong Kong ¡V 10 Model Teenagers"

From over a hundred nominations, Loretta Fan (4S) and Angel Leung (3L) have been selected as two of the ten winners of the 2009 ¡§I Love Hong Kong ¡V 10 Model Teenagers¡¨ organized by The ¡§We Love Hong Kong¡¨ Association. Participants were judged on their academic performance, character, involvement in social services and attitude towards life. The prize presentation ceremony was held on 15th July 2009 at the Central Library. Congratulations to all the winners!


2009 China (Hong Kong) Outstanding Students Selection
We are very pleased to announce that 13 students from our school were selected as finalists of the 2009 China (Hong Kong) Outstanding Students Selection organized by the Da Vinci Foundation and the Hong Kong Outstanding Teachers Association. They are Ann Lam (1T), Christie Chow (2P), Chammie Leung (2P), Isa Hung (2U), Zandra Leung (3A), Renee Yeh (3A), Claudia Lau (3S), Theodora Lai (4L), Beatrice Ricafort (4S), Gevon Lai (4S), Stephanie Cheng (4T), Courtney Chan (5S), Jacqueline So (6P). Among them, Christie Chow, Jacqueline So and Courtney Chan were chosen by the board of adjudicators to be the Outstanding Students in their respective age groups. Congratulations!

61ST HONG KONG SCHOOLS MUSIC FESTIVAL
This year our school had a total of 105 entries in the music competition. We are delighted to have been awarded four champions, seven 1st runners-up, and seven 2nd runners-up. The active participation and efforts of our students are much appreciated by the school. Congratulations to all winners!

Hong Kong Science and Technology Invention Contest (2008-09) organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre, Education Bureau and Innovation and Technology Commission

Judy Chung (6A), Joanne Lai (6P) and Janice Wong (6A) presented their project ¡§Shrinkage of Fabric¡¨ in the Hong Kong Science and Technology Invention Contest 2008-09 in the category of Science and Technology Invention Works - Chemistry and material science. They attained merit and were presented medals and certificates. Congratulations!


Think Series Competition 2008-2009

Our school participated in the Think Series Competitions 2008-2009 co-organized by the Wiseman Education and the Education Bureau and obtained excellent results. For having the highest number of school entries and winners, our school was awarded the Highest School Entries Award and the Most Inspiring School Award for our creativity. Joyce Yip of F.6L was selected as a New Zealand student ambassador and will be going on a cultural exchange tour in summer. Congratulations to all winners!

National Youth Aerospace Model Building Competition (Hong Kong Selection) 2009

The "Fly to Beijing, Fly to Space 2009" National Youth Aerospace Model Building Competition (Hong Kong Selection) was held on 4th and 19th April 2009. We are very pleased to announce that our school had won the following prizes:

Third Class Prize (¤Tµ¥¼ú) - Jacqueline Chan 3S, Gigi Leung 3S, Georgina So 3S, Cherry Yeung 3S and Jenny Chan 6P

Terranda Yeung, Peony Li and Jane Loong will join the Hong Kong Representative Team that will compete in the National Youth Aerospace Model Building Competition 2009 in Guizhou in August. Moreover, Mr. W. K. Lo was honoured to be appointed as the Coach of the Hong Kong Representative Team and he will lead the Team to compete in the National Competition. Congratulations!


Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools (2008-09)
organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, Education Bureau, Hong Kong Chemical Society and Royal Society of Chemistry
Joanne Lai, Kati Lam, Ashley Wong of F.6P together with Judy Chung and Janice Wong of F.6A attained the 1st Runner-up in the Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools 2008-09 with their project titled ¡§Shrinkage of Fabric¡¨. They were awarded a trophy, silver medals, $800 book coupon and certificates. Congratulations!

Inter-School Athletics Championships (Division 1) 2008-2009

Victoria Chow of Form 2L participated in the Inter-School Athletics Championships (Division 1) 2008-2009 organized by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation in March 2009. She won the Championships in the High Jump Event and the 2nd Runner-up in the Long Jump Event in Girls C Grade. She was presented with Gold and Bronze Medals. Congratulations!


Inter-School Table Tennis Competition 2008 - 2009
Our table-tennis team participated in the Inter-School Table Tennis Competition 2008 - 2009 and got excellent results. They got the Champion in Girls C Grade, 5th Place in Girls A Grade and 1st Runner-up in Girls Overall. We will be promoted to Division ONE next year. Congratulations to all the team members!

Fun with Learning Project Competition 2009 organized by the Hong Kong Association of Computer Education

Katherine Lam, Sabrina Li and Jenna Yuen of F.2T obtained the First runner-up and Creativity Award in the Fun with Learning Project Competition 2009 with their project ¡§Public / Private Spaces?¡¨. They were awarded with trophies and certificates. Congratulations!


The A.S. Watson Group HK Student Sports Awards 2008-2009

Agnes Wan of F.4L had participated in a leadership training workshop provided by the A.S. Watson Group in January 2009 at La Salle College and was awarded the A.S. Watson Group HK Student Sports Awards 2008-2009. The Prize Presentation Ceremony was held on 15th February 2009 at Queen Elizabeth Stadium. She was presented the certificate and a scholarship award of HK$500. Congratulations!


The Schools Individual Fencing Tournament 2008-2009 

The Schools Individual Fencing Tournament 2008-2009 organized by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation was held on 7th February 2009 at North Kwai Chung Tang Shiu Kin Sports Centre. Kelly Ho of F. 1T won the Champion in Girls Grade C Foil Section (ªá¼C), Ruby Kwan of F.3T and Joyce Yeung of F.1T received 1st Runner-up in Girls Grade B & C Sabre Section (°t¼C) respectively. Congratulations!


22nd National Chemistry Olympiad and Winter Camp
organized by Shaanxi Normal University, Shaanxi Province Chemical Society and Chinese Chemical Society

Joanne Lai, Kati Lam, Ashley Wong of F.6P together with Judy Chung and Janice Wong of F.6A participated in the 22nd National Chemistry Olympiad and Winter Camp held in Xian, Shaanxi, from 5 to 11 January, 2009. 164 students from 32 different provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China participated in the competition. They attained the 3rd Place Award and were presented Bronze medals and certificates. Congratulations!


60th HONG KONG SCHOOLS SPEECH FESTIVAL
This year our school sent a total of over 200 entries. Nearly 1000 students were involved in the events, some of which included Harmonic Choral Speaking, Solo Verse Speaking, Shakespeare Monologue and Public Speaking Solo and Public Speaking Team. We are happy to say that our school was awarded 19 Champion Places, 21 1st Runners-up, and 28 2nd Runners-up. For having the highest number of school entries ¡V for the 11th consecutive year in a row ¡V our school also received The Director of Education Trophy. Congratulations to all winners!

Short Story Competition 2008 organized by The Standard and RTHK
Joy Zhu of F.4P won the Creative Prize (Junior Section) in the Short Story Competition 2008 organized by The Standard and RTHK Radio 3. She is one of the 4 winners from the 500 entries submitted for the competition this year. Her story 'Hearts' was highly commended by the adjudicators and was published in The Standard. She was awarded a certificate of honors and book coupons in the prize presentation ceremony held on 3rd of December 2009 in RTHK. Congratulations!

Solar Power Sterling Engine Competition
On 29 November, 2008, Gigi Leung, Peony Li, Kathy Tong and Laetitia Wu from F.3S went to Science Park and took part in the Solar Power Sterling Engine Competition jointly organized by Science Park and Hong Kong Technology and Renewable Energy Events. They came third in the competition and were awarded a trophy and book coupons. Congratulations!
