Australian National Chemistry Quiz organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education
Thirty-six of our F.6 and F.7 students received 10 High Distinction, 17 Distinction and 9 Credit awards in the 2010 Australian National Chemistry Quiz (Senior Division). Claudia Cheung (6P), Krystal Tsang (6P), Ting Ting Chang (7A) and Prudence Li (7A) were ranked top 10% in Hong Kong and they were presented the High Distinction certificates. Loretta Fan (6P) and Theodora Lai (6P) were ranked top 3% in Hong Kong and top 800 students among 115,012 entries from 1409 schools from 14 countries. They were presented the High Distinction certificates and the "Award of Excellence" plaques.



The 10th Awards for Little Scientists of Tomorrow organized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the China Association for Science and Technology and H. S. Chau Foundation Limited
The Final Judging of the 10th Awards for Little Scientists of Tomorrow (²Ä¤Q¤K©¡¡u©ú¤Ñ¤p¤p¬ì¾Ç®a¡v¼úÀy¬¡°Ê) was successfully held in Beijing, from 17 to 23 November 2010. Students are judged on a written test on scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment on personal quality and a project presentation. After 3 rounds of serious judging, Stephanie Yeung of F.7P was ranked top 15 among 581 representatives from different provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China with her project 'Iron "sucks"!'. Stephanie won the 1st Place Award, receiving a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥20,000. An extra RMB ¥20,000 was presented to the school as recognition for her support.

Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2011 Singapore Exchange Tour
Our F.6 chemistry team was sponsored to participate in the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2011 Singapore Exchange Tour from 8th to 12th August 2011. The programme included visits to Science Centre Singapore, S'pore Discovery Centre, Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore where students met experts from various scientific fields. Being one of the Hong Kong delegate teams, Bernice Hung (6P), Jasmine Ng (6A) and Bertha Wong (6A) presented their project 'Plain Cellulose?' to students of River Valley High School in the Joint Project Seminar. Students enjoyed interaction with peers who shared a love of scientific endeavour.






26th China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, The Ministry of Education and The Ministry of Science and Technology
Bernice Hung of F.6P participated in the 26th China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, China, from 2nd to 8th August, 2011. 351 individual and team projects competed in the contest. Bernice presented her project -"Plain Cellulose?" and her booth attracted a multitude of audiences in the Open Exhibition. She attained the 3rd Place Award and the "Guangdong Science Centre Special Award". Her prize includes a bronze medal, a cash prize of RMB ¥1000 and two certificates.



Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2011 organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Education Bureau, and Hong Kong Science Museum
The Final Judging cum Award Presentation Ceremony of Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2011 was held on 4 June. Loretta Fan (6P), Bernice Hung (6P), Theodora Lai (6P), Jasmine Ng (6A) and Bertha Wong (6A) won the Championship and the "Best Booth Presentation" Award with their project 'Plain cellulose?' in the type of 'Investigation of Scientific Phenomena or Application of Scientific Theories' (Senior Division). They received a trophy, Full Year Museum Pass, $10,000 book coupons and certificates. They will also be sponsored to attend an exchange programme in Singapore in mid-August 2011.






Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools (2010-11) organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, Hong Kong Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry and Hong Kong Education City
Loretta Fan, Bernice Hung and Theodora Lai of F.6P together with Jasmine Ng and Bertha Wong of F.6A won the Championship in the Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools 2010-11 with their project titled 'Plain Cellulose?'. They were awarded a trophy, gold medals, $1000 book coupon and certificates. Loretta Fan was selected as the Best Presenter and she received a trophy and a certificate.


Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Invention Competition (10-11) organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Loretta Fan, Bernice Hung and Theodora Lai of F.6P presented their project 'Plain cellulose?' in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Invention Competition (10-11) in the category of Science and Technology Invention Works - Chemistry and Material Science (Senior Secondary Section). They attained the 2nd Place Award, receiving a trophy, certificates and a scholarship of $2000.



24th National Chemistry Olympiad and Winter Camp organized by Xiamen University, Fujian Province Chemical Society and Chinese Chemical Society
Loretta Fan, Bernice Hung, Theodora Lai of F.6P together with Jeanine Chuen, Jasmine Ng and Bertha Wong of F.6A participated in the 24th National Chemistry Olympiad and Winter Camp held in Xiamen, Fujian, from 5 to 11 January, 2011. 191 students from 32 different provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China participated in the competition. Theodora attained the 3rd Place Award and she was presented a Bronze medal and a certificate.

Laboratory Safety Poster Design Competition organized by Science Education Section of the Education Bureau and Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education
Jasmine Wong of F.4U won the merit award in the Laboratory Safety Poster Design Competition held in July 2011. Her poster was considered outstanding by the judges for its artistic quality, content, and effectiveness in expressing and promoting the theme of laboratory safety in secondary schools. She received an award certificate and book coupons worth $200.


The 11th Awarding Program for Future Scientists organized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the China Association for Science and Technology and H. S. Chau Foundation Limited
The Final Judging of the 11th Awarding Program for Future Scientists(²Ä¤Q¤@©¡¡u©ú¤Ñ¤p¤p¬ì¾Ç®a¡v¼úÀy¬¡°Ê) was successfully held in Beijing, from 15 to 22 November 2011. One hundred finalists were judged on a written test on scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment on personal quality and a project presentation. After 3 rounds of serious judging, Bertha Wong of F.7A was ranked top 50 among 600 representatives from different provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China with her project 'Celluadsorbents'. Bertha won the 2nd Place Award and the Best Booth Award, receiving a silver medal, a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥10,000. Another RMB ¥10,000 was presented to St. Paul's Convent School as recognition for her support.

Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2012 organized by Society for Science & the Public
Bertha Wong of F.7A participated in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, from 13 to 18 May, 2012. The Intel ISEF is the world's largest pre-college science competition and this year brought together more than 1,500 young scientists from affiliate fairs in approximately 70 countries, regions and territories. Only the top 400 finalists received awards and prizes for their groundbreaking work. Bertha presented her project "Treating Polluted Water and Oil Spillage by Cellulosic Waste" to the international judges in the interview. She attained the 3rd Place Award in the category of environmental management. She was presented a scholarship of US $1,000 and a certificate.

They attained excellent results, including 44 High distinction, 44 Distinction and 29 Credit awards. In particular, Lois Choy of F.5P scored 100% in the quiz. She was presented the "Award of Excellence" plaque and a certificate.


The 12th Awarding Program for Future Scientists organized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, the China Association for Science and Technology and H. S. Chau Foundation Limited
Two of our F.6 students participated in the Final Judging of the 12th Awarding Program for Future Scientists (²Ä¤Q¤G©¡¡u©ú¤Ñ¤p¤p¬ì¾Ç®a¡v¼úÀy¬¡°Ê) held in Beijing, from 14 to 20 November 2012. One hundred finalists were judged on a written test on scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment on personal quality and a project presentation. Cynthia Wong of F.6P presented her project "Potent coffee" and obtained the 3rd Place Award. Her prizes included a bronze medal, a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥1,000. Katherine Lam of F.6A won the 2nd Place Award for her project "Adsorbents from seafood wastes". She received a silver medal, a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥10,000. Danish National Science Fair 2014 organized by Danish Science Factory
Sabrina Leung of F.6U participated in the Danish National Science Fair 2014 held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 24 April to 1 May, 2014. This science fair provides an annual forum for top projects from high school students in Denmark and delegations from the affiliated fairs to display their independent research. Sabrina presented her project "The Ultimate Maillard Formula to Gastronomic Wonders" to the judges in the interview. Being the 1st Prize Winner in the international competition for young scientists, Sabrina was presented by Prince Joachim and the Minister of Education of Denmark on stage a scholarship of US $300 and a certificate.

The Final Judging cum Award Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2014 was successfully held on 31st May 2014. Sonia Chan, Dorothy Lau of F.5P and Tiffany Chan, Katherine Lai, Seraph Wu of F.5A won the Championship and the "Water Science Award" for their investigation project named "Metallic Rainbow" in the Senior Division. They received trophies, certificates and book coupons ($1500 for each student and $8000 for school). The team will be sponsored to a Korea exchange programme in late August. Also, Dorothy Lau won "The Visitors' Favourite Award of Science Drawing Contest", receiving a certificate and a museum pass.






 

Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools (2013-14) organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, Hong Kong Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry and the Education Bureau
On 5 July 2014, Sonia Chan, Dorothy Lau of F.5P and Tiffany Chan, Katherine Lai, Seraph Wu of F.5A presented their project titled "Metallic Rainbow" in the final round of the Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools 2013-14. They won the 1st Runner-up in the competition, receiving a trophy, silver medals, $1000 book coupons and certificates.

Our F.5 chemistry team was sponsored to participate in the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2014 Korea Exchange Tour from 21 to 25 August 2014. The programme included visits to Korea Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources, National Science Museum, Gwacheon National Science Museum and Seoul National University where students met experts from various scientific fields. Being one of the Hong Kong delegate teams, Sonia Chan (5P), Tiffany Chan (5A), Katherine Lai (5A) and Dorothy Lau (5P) presented their project entitled "Metallic Rainbow" to students of Seoul National University. Students enjoyed interaction with peers who shared a love of scientific endeavour.




29th China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, The Ministry of Education and The Ministry of Science and Technology
Seraph Wu of F.5A participated in the 29th China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest held in Beijing from 20 to 26 August, 2014. 370 individual and team projects competed in the contest. Seraph presented her project entitled "Metallic Rainbow" and her booth attracted a multitude of audiences in the Open Exhibition. She attained the 2nd Place Award, the Intel Talent Award and the Guangdong Science Centre Special Award. Her prize includes a silver medal, a cash prize of RMB ¥2000 and certificates.



International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, and Environment) Project Olympiad 2015 organized by Harmony Public Schools
The I-SWEEEP Olympiad 2015 was successfully held in Houston, Texas in United States, from 7 to 11 May, 2015. The science fair brought together 427 top projects from 67 countries and 44 U.S. states to Houston where young researchers presented their innovative projects to take on today's challenges in energy, engineering, and environment. Being one of the Hong Kong delegate teams, Tiffany Chan, Katherine Lai and Seraph Wu of F.6A presented their project "Devising a test kit to monitor heavy metal ions in industrial wastewater" in the contest. They attained Honourable Mention in the category of "Environment" and were presented with certificates.

"Digichem" Video Production Competition for Hong Kong Secondary Schools 2014 organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education
The Prize-giving Ceremony of the "Digichem" Video Production Competition for Hong Kong Secondary Schools 2014 was successfully held on 5 July 2014. Two teams of students participated in the competition and produced their videos titled "The Lying Copper Ring" and "MSG Test Kit". Jennifer Mak, Heidi Suen of F.3S and Qianna Chung of F.3T won the Champion in the junior secondary division while Sonia Chan and Dorothy Lau of F.5P won the Champion in the senior secondary division. Both teams were awarded a trophy, $1300 book coupons and certificates.

Science and Technology Seedlings 100 Plan organized by the Hong Kong Association for the Advancement of Science and Technology (HKAAST)

On 4 October, 2014, Eunice Yiu (F.5P), Jaime Tsang (F.5U), Carmen Leung (F.4S) and Jamie Chan (F.4P) attended the Graduation Ceremony for the 2nd Batch and Opening Ceremony for the 3rd Batch of 'Seedlings 100 Plan' organized by HKAAST.

The ceremony commenced with a series of inspiring speeches by the Guests of Honour, including Prof. Louis Lock Fat-shing, President of HKAAST, Dr. Rebecca Lee Lok-sze, Vice-president of HKAAST, Ms. Janet Wong, JP, Commissioner for Innovation and Technology as well as the programme director, who emphasized the significance of science and technology in the modern world and introduced the crux of the programme, which was to ignite a passion for science in students and broaden their horizon. The speeches were followed by the presentation of certificates, a sharing session by the 2nd batch of seedlings and a kick-off ceremony to mark the beginning of a new round of the programme.

As the 2nd batch of seedlings, Eunice Yiu and Jaime Tsang were awarded certificates of appreciation for their active participation during the year. They will serve as student mentors in the coming year, offering guidance and support to the new batch of seedlings, which include Carmen Leung and Jamie Chan.

One hundred finalists were selected from 669 representatives from 26 provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China. They were judged on a written test on scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment on personal quality and a project presentation. Ranking top 3 among the finalists, Seraph Wu of F.6A won the Future Scientist Award with her project entitled "Metallic Rainbow". She received a trophy, a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥50,000. An extra RMB ¥50,000 was presented to the school as recognition for her support.

The Final Judging of the 15th Awarding Program for Future Scientists (²Ä¤Q¤­©¡¡u©ú¤Ñ¤p¤p¬ì¾Ç®a¡v¼úÀy¬¡°Ê) was successfully held in Beijing, from 20 to 27 October 2015. One hundred finalists were selected from 719 representatives from 23 provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China. They were judged on a written test on scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment on personal quality and a project presentation. Jaime Tsang of F.6U won the 2nd Place Award with her project entitled "Homemade pastel". She received a medal, a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥10,000. An extra RMB ¥10,000 was presented to the school as recognition for her support.

"Digichem" Video Production Competition for Hong Kong Secondary Schools 2015 organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education

The Prize-giving Ceremony of the "Digichem" Video Production Competition for Hong Kong Secondary Schools 2015, organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, was successfully held on 4th July 2015. Two teams of students participated in the competition and produced their videos titled "The Tricky Transformer" and "The Chemistry of Colour - Homemade Pastel". Esther Lee, Tiffany Leung and Jane Wong of F.3S won the 1st runner-up in the junior division. They were awarded a trophy, $800 book coupons and certificates. The award presentation ceremony of Secondary School Mathematics and Science Competition 2015 organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University was successfully held on 8 July. Some of our F.5 students attained excellent results in Chemistry, with Kelly Au Yeung (F.5S), Janice Chan (F.5L), Natalie Mak (F.5U) and Jaime Tsang (F.5U) obtaining medals. Also, there were 12 High distinction awards.




Australian National Chemistry Quiz 2015 organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education

Some of our F.5 and F.6 students attained excellent results in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz 2015 organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education. The result has finally released on 30th September. Haylie Tong and Karen Li of F.5T and Rachelle Yeung of F.5P scored 100% in the quiz. They received the "Award of Excellence" plaques and certificates. Also, there are 7 High Distinction Excellence, 23 High Distinction, 46 Distinction and 24 Credit awards.


2015 Science Assessment Test organized by Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education

Our students participated in the 2015 Science Assessment Test (Secondary 2 and 3) organized by Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education and received excellent results. 9 students have received the Gold Award. They are Holy Chan, Tinbo Chui, Jane Ho, Michelle Lai, Jane Wong, Miffy Young and Tiffany Yu from 4S, Koby Choy from 4T and Ann Lee from 4A.


Chemical Safety Comics Design Competition 2015 organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Council, Labour Department and Education Bureau

Jessie Keh of F.5A won the 1st runner-up in the "Chemical Safety Comics Design Competition 2015" organized by the Occupational Safety and Health Council, Labour Department and Education Bureau in December 2015. Jessie showed her creativity and talents in her comics design which aims at enhancing public awareness of chemical safety hence nurturing a safety culture. She received a trophy, a certificate, and $2,000 book coupons at the prize-giving ceremony on 22 March 2016.


Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2016 organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Science Museum

The award presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2016 jointly organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Science Museum, and sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Commission as well as Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation was successfully held on 19th March 2016. Tina Ip, Jennifer Mak and Polly Tsang of F.5A together with Dilys Yeung and Kelly Yip of F.5P obtained the "Best Presentation Award" with their investigation project "Lab Made Paint Reinvented!". In the Scientific Wallchart Division, Maisie Luk of F.3S won the 1st Prize while Alicia Au of F.3S, Zoe Au Yeung of F.3S and Sophia Chong of F.3P won the 2nd Prize. All the above winners received certificates and book coupons.

In the category of Research and Invention - Chemistry and Material, Jennifer Mak and Polly Tsang of F.5A and Kelly Yip of F.5P obtained the 2nd Place Award with their project "Lab Made Paint Reinvented!", while Jenna Wong of F.3S and Clarissa Yung of F.3A obtained the 2nd Place Award with their project "Manufacture of Artificial Skin with Sodium Alginate and Xanthan Gum". The final round of Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools 2016, organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, Hong Kong Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry and the Education Bureau, was held on 30 Apr 2016. Tina Ip, Jennifer Mak and Polly Tsang of F.5A and Kelly Yip and Dilys Yeung of F.5P presented their project "Lab Made Paint Reinvented!". They won the honour award in the competition, receiving a plague, certificates and souvenirs.



31st China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest

Some Paulinians participated in the 31st China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest held in Shanghai from 13 to 19 August, 2016. 347 individual and team projects competed in the contest. In the category of Chemistry, Polly Tsang of F.5A presented her project "Lab Made Paint Reinvented!" and her booth attracted a multitude of audiences in the Open Exhibition. She attained the 2nd Place Award, receiving a silver medal and a certificate. In the category of Science and Technology Creativity, Jenna Wong of F.3S obtained the "Star of Creativity Award" for her project "Artificial Skin". She received a gold medal, a certificate and a sponsorship to join the exchange programme in Shanghai. Moreover, Verena Yiu of F.3S received with Outstanding Creative Award for her project "Reuse of Immobilized Amylase" while in the category of Science Fiction Drawing, Devanshi Ketan Anandpara, Noelle Pang and Kaur Prabhsharan of F.1A received the 3rd Place Award.

Our students received excellent results in the 2016 Science Assessment Test (Secondary 2 and 3) organized by Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education. Nine students obtained Diamond awards, they are Rachel Lam, Gigi Ling, Maisie Luk, Charlotte So and Locani Wong of F.4S, Brittany Chan, Sabrina Lee and Agnes Tse of F.4T and Adeline Ho of F.4A. Also, 10 students got Gold, 6 got Silver and 2 got Bronze awards.

Some Paulinians participated in the Australian Big Science Competition 2016 organized by Australian Science Innovations and Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education. The result was released on 2 September. Michelle Lai of F.5S attained the High Distinction award whereas Charlotte Kong and Tiffany Yu of F.5P attained the Distinction awards. Also, 10 Paulinians got the Credit awards.

Some of our F.5 and F.6 students attained excellent results in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz 2016 organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education. The Final Judging of the 16th Awarding Program for Future Scientists (²Ä¤Q¤»©¡¡u©ú¤Ñ¤p¤p¬ì¾Ç®a¡v¼úÀy¬¡°Ê) was successfully held in Shanghai, from 24 to 29 October 2016. Ninety-eight finalists were selected from 883 representatives from 23 provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China. They were judged on a written test on scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment on personal quality and a project presentation. Polly Tsang of F.6A won the 3rd Place Award with her project entitled "Lab made paint reinvented!". She received a medal, a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥5,000.

The award presentation ceremony of Secondary School Mathematics and Science Competition 2017 organized by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University was successfully held on 30 June. Audrey Fong of F.5S obtained a medal in the Chemistry section, while Tiffany Yu of F.5P obtained medals in both the Biology and Chemistry section. Also, there were 3 High distinction awards in Biology, 9 in Chemistry and 1 in Mathematics.




Roche Young Scientist Award 2017: Champion Trip to Switzerland

A team of students, Rachel Lam and Jenna Wong of F.4S, and Clarissa Yung of F.4A won the Champion in the Roche Young Scientist Award 2017 and were awarded an 8-day educational trip to Roche headquarters in Switzerland. On 24 June 2017, the three F.4 students, Miss C. Po, together with the staff of Roche Hong Kong and a mentor from HKUST travelled to Switzerland. A highlight of the trip was the presentation of their project "Manufacture of Artificial Skin" to Roche scientists. They received insightful feedback and concrete suggestions for future developments of their project. The Paulinians had the valuable opportunity of visiting advanced laboratories at Roche Pharmaceuticals and Roche Diagnostics, and listening to presentations from Roche scientists on rare disease therapies, neuroscience discovery, computational biology and antibacterial drug development. They spent time at Experio Roche school laboratory, a well-equipped laboratory made freely available to all secondary schools in the community, where they used advanced apparatuses to synthesize a drug, Paracetamol. The team also visited a local school, Kantonsschule Wettingen High School and joined in a Physics lesson. The team was given the opportunity to present their project to the students and have jointly worked with the class on a bridge building activity. In addition to learning more about STEM, the team also enjoyed the beautiful scenery of Basel and Lucerne and visited various museums.

The Paulinians were impressed by the innovative endeavours at the forefront of medical research. They were inspired by the passion and persistence of the Roche scientists and the company vision??Doing now what patients need next." The students developed a broader and deeper perspective of scientific research and brought home enhanced motivation to strive hard and pursue excellence in their studies and undertakings.





Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2017 Japan Exchange Tour

Our F.5 chemistry team was sponsored to participate in the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2017 Japan Exchange Tour from 20 to 24 August 2017. The programme included not only visits to museums like National Museum of Nature and Science, Nagoya City Science Museum, but also Mitsubishi Motors' Nagoya Plant as well as KEK Inter-University Research Institute, the largest particle physics laboratory in Japan where students met experts in nuclear physics. They also visited the laboratories and attended a lecture on laser fusion in the Institute of laser engineering, Osaka University. Being one of the Hong Kong delegate teams, Holy Chan (5A), Camellia Cheng (5U), Sinead Nam (5A) and Tiffany Yu (5P) presented their project "From Zero to Hero ??Green Synthesis of Nanosilver for Dye Degradation" to Japanese high school students. Students enjoyed interaction with peers who shared a love of scientific endeavour.

For the Science Assessment Test, 10 students obtained the Diamond Awards. On 15th April, 2018, some Paulinians participated in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition 2017-18 organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre. In the Research and Invention Category, Locani Wong of F.5P and Jenna Wong of F.5A won the 1st Place Award with their project "pH-Sensitive Hydrogel Beads for Oral Drug Delivery", receiving a trophy and certificates. They were also awarded the Certificate for Outstanding Achievement for Ability and Creativity in In Vitro Biology presented by The Society For In Vitro Biology.

Besides, Vanessa Chan and Rachel Lam of F.5P, together with Anson Yu of F.5U obtained merit with their project "'Ironic' Saviour - Green Synthesis of Iron Nanoparticles for Degradation of Dye and Removal of Metal Ions". They were awarded medals and certificates.

Rachel Lam of F.6P won the 2nd Place Award with her project entitled "'Ironic' Saviour - Green Synthesis of Iron Nanoparticles for Degradation of Dye and Removal of Metal Ions". She received a medal, a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥10,000. An extra RMB ¥10,000 was presented to the school as recognition for her support.






BASF Kids' Lab Experiment Challenge

On 10 November 2018, the 2018 BASF Kids' Lab Experiment Challenge Final Round cum Award Ceremony was held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Two teams from our school were shortlisted by a panel of judges and were invited to present their ideas to them. Elizabeth Law (F.4A) and Huey Lee (F.4A) won 2nd Runner-up with their project, "Where's My Water Bottle?". Each of them was awarded $400 book coupons. Phoebe Suen (F.3S) and Zita Zhang (F.3T) entered the final round with their project, "Raining rainbow experiment" and were one of the six finalists.

In the Research and Invention Category, Nydia Lee (F.4S), Charlotte Ma (F.4T) and Noelle Pang (F.4T) won the Best Project Award, 1st Place Award and Emerson Award (Material Science) with their project "Pop-Star Extended Release Pills", receiving trophies, $3000 scholarship and certificates. Annie Suen (F.5P), Vanessa Yu (F.5P) and Rachel Tse (F.5U) obtained 3rd Place Award and ASM Material Science Education Foundation Award with their project "SOSeliminator -- Synthesis of Nanoselenium, Nanosulphur and Graphene Oxide for Dye Degradation and Hg2+ Removal". They were awarded trophies and certificates.





"Element of the Month for International Year of Periodic Table 2019 (HK)" Competition

Our school obtained very good results in the "Element of the Month for International Year of Periodic Table 2019 (HK)" Competition from October 2018 to April 2019. We got a total of 2 Best Presentation, 9 Outstanding and 24 Merit awards. Besides, Shanice Li (F.3P) won the Best Final Award, receiving $400 book coupons. All the Best Presentation and Outstanding awardees received $400 and $200 book coupons respectively, while the Merit awardees obtained 3-D Periodic Tables. Our school also won the "Most Active Participation School Award".

"Digi-science" Video Production Competition for Hong Kong Secondary Schools 2019

The Prize-giving Ceremony of the "Digi-science" Video Production Competition for Hong Kong Secondary Schools 2019, organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education and the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification was successfully held on 27 Apr 2019. In the senior secondary division, Peony Woo (F.5P) and Cherry Hui (F.5U) won the Champion with their video titled 'REVEALED - Mercury behind the masks'. They were awarded $1000 book coupons and certificates. In the junior secondary division, Phoebe Suen (F.3S) and Zita Zhang (F.3T) produced their videos titled 'Comparing decomposition speeds of different kinds of waste'. They obtained the 1st runner-up and were awarded $800 book coupons and certificates.




Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools (2018-19)

The final round of Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools 2018-19, organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, Hong Kong Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry and the Education Bureau, was held on 27 Apr 2019. Annie Suen, Peony Woo and Vanessa Yu (F.5P) together with Cherry Hui and Rachel Tse (F.5U) won the Championship with their project "SOSeliminator - Synthesis of Nanoselenium, Nanosulphur and Graphene Oxide for Dye Degradation and 2+ Removal". They were awarded a trophy, gold medals, $1000 book coupons and certificates.




Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2019

The final judging cum award presentation ceremony of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2019 jointly organised by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Science Museum, and sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Commission as well as Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation was successfully held on 27 April 2019. In the Senior Investigation Division, Annie Suen, Peony Woo and Vanessa Yu (F.5P) together with Cherry Hui and Rachel Tse (F.5U) obtained the "Energy, Engineering and Environment Award" and "Honourable Mention" with their project "SOSeliminator - Synthesis of Nanoselenium, Nanosulphur and Graphene Oxide for Dye Degradation and Hg2+ Removal". They were presented trophies and sponsorship for 2 members to compete in the Genius Olympiad 2019 in the United States in mid-June. Nydia Lee (F.4S), Charlotte Ma and Noelle Pang (F.4T) got the "Best Booth Presentation Award" with their project "'Pop-Star' Extended Release Pills". Moreover, in the Scientific Wallchart Division, Rachel Choi (F.5S) won the Second Prize. All the above winners were awarded certificates and book coupons.





Genius Olympiad 2019

The Genius Olympiad 2019 was successfully held in Oswego, New York in United States, from 17 to 22 June 2019. The fair brought together 842 science projects from 79 countries and 43 U.S. states to Oswego where high school students presented their projects to take on today's challenges in environment issues. Being one of the Hong Kong delegate teams, Vanessa Yu (F.5P) and Rachel Tse (F.5U) presented their project "SOSeliminator - Synthesis of Nanoselenium, Nanosulphur and Graphene Oxide for Dye Degradation and Hg2+ Removal" in the contest. They attained Gold Award in the category of 'Science' and were presented with gold medals, Amazon computer tablets and certificates.

34th China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest

Several Paulinians participated in the 34th China Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest held in Macau from 20 to 26 July, 2019. 352 teams of students from provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities of China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan were involved in the competition. Nydia Lee (F.4S) and Noelle Pang (F.4T) achieved the 2nd Place Award with their project "Pop-Star" Extended Release Pills". They were awarded silver medals and certificates.



Science Assessment Test 2019

Our students received excellent results in the Science Assessment Test 2019 organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education. The prize presentation was conducted on 12 Sep 2019. 7 students obtained Diamond Awards. They are Emily Lau (F.4S), Chilli Lau (F.4S), Tiffany Sin (F.4S), Jasmine Tang (F.4S), Vienne Wong (F.4S), Erica Keung (F.4A) and Emily Chiu (F.4U). 24 students also received Gold awards, 15 students received Silver awards and 5 others received Bronze awards.



Australian National Chemistry Quiz 2019

Some of our F.5 and F.6 students attained very good results in the Australian National Chemistry Quiz 2019 organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education. The result was released on 11 October 2019. Shanie Ling (F.6S), Pamela Tang (F.6A) and Cherry Hui (F.6U) obtained full marks in the quiz. They received the high distinction excellence awards. 29 students also received High distinction awards, 33 students received Distinction awards and 30 others received Credit awards. Congratulations!


BASF Kids' Lab Experiment Challenge

On 2 November 2019, the 2019 BASF Kids' Lab Experiment Challenge Final Round cum Award Ceremony was held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Zita Ng (F.4S), Katarina Shing (F.4S) and Rachel Ma (F.4T) won the Champion with their project "Artificial Leaf", which is an experiment designed to demonstrate to kids the role of chemistry in sustainability. They were awarded a trophy, certificates and $4000 book coupons.





S.T. Yau High School Science Award (Asia)

The S.T. Yau High School Science Award (Asia) organised by the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences was held on 30 November 2019. Annie Suen (F.6P), Peony Woo (F.6P) and Cherry Hui (F.6U) obtained the Honourable Mention with their project "SOSeliminator - Synthesis of Nanoselenium, Nanosulphur and Graphene Oxide for Dye Degradation and Hg2+ Removal". Besides, the project "'Pop-Star' Extended Release Pills" completed by Nydia Lee (F.5P) was shortlisted as one of the 5 finalists.




Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition 2019-20

On 23 May 2020, some Paulinians participated in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition 2019-20 organised by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre. In the Research and Invention Category, Phoebe Suen (F.4S), Jasmine Tang (F.4S) and Zita Zhang (F.4T) won the 1st Place Award with their project "NanoShield". They also obtained the Emerson Award for Material Science, ASM Material Science Education Foundation Award and a scholarship of $3000. Three other teams obtained merit awards. The team projects are "Synthesis of Nanoparticles for Nitrite and Nitrate Decomposition in Wastewater" (5P Gigi Cheng, 5P Nicole Choi and 5P Selina Wu), "New Generation of 24 Flavours Herbal Tea" (4S Abigail Chua, 4S Tiffany Sin and 4S Stephanie Sin) and "LED Lamp powered by microalgae" (3S Crispina Chan, 3S Angela Chan and 3U Rachel Lam).






Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2020

In the Senior Investigation Division, Alice Chau (F.5P), Gigi Cheng (F.5P), Stephanie Cheng (F.5P), Nicole Choi (F.5P) and Selina Wu (F.5P) obtained the 1st runner-up with their project "Synthesis of Nanoparticles for Nitrite and Nitrate Decomposition in Wastewater". They were presented a trophy, medals and a nomination to compete in the International Science and Invention Fair (ISIF) 2020 in early November. Moreover, in the Scientific Wallchart Division, Starry Chow (F.5S) and Kira Lee (F.5S) won the First Prize. All the above winners were awarded certificates and book coupons.
