St. Paul’s Convent School - Staff Development Days
  On 22nd and 24th of August, 2015, all staff were invited to participate in staff development activities. On the 22nd transport was laid on to take everyone to the 30th China Adolescent Science and Technology Innovation Contest at the Asia Expo venue on Lantau Island. It was amazing to see the inventiveness of students from so many different schools, and the creativity extended from robotics and weaving, to aeroplane cabin air filtration systems. Staff learned that the enthusiasm and inspiration of youth is one of the greatest resources any school possesses. Click here for more information.

The Leadership Training Camp (2015-2016)
  The leadership training camp of 2015-2016 took place on 18th and 19th August, 2015 in the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp. 6 teachers and current Prefects’ Board members joined the newly elected school prefects for the leadership training activity. School prefects participated in exciting team building games such as bamboo raft construction and they also had a campfire at night. Through these activities, the prefects learnt the importance of cooperation and commitment. Their confidence and determination to serve the school were also enhanced after the training. Form One Bridging Course 2015
  To prepare the new Form one students (2015-16) for a smooth transition from primary to secondary in September 2015, the school has provided them with a Bridging Course from 13 July - 25 July 2015. In first week, students took Chinese, Mathematics and ICT lessons. In the second week, they attended an English Immersion Course organized by the Wofoo Social Enterprises and supported by HKSAR Education Bureau, British Council and Hong Kong Baptist University. Mathematics Book Report Competition (2014-15)
  4 students won prizes in the Mathematics Book Report Competition (2014-15) organized by EDB. First Class Award winners are Lois Lam (3P) and Sigis Yau (3P). Second Class Award winners are Michelle Lai (3S) and Rachel Leung (3P). They are awarded trophies, book coupons and certificates. The winning entries are based on the books "How to Lie with Charts", “The Housekeeper and the Professor” and “The Numbers Behind NUMB3RS”. Brescia GirsLEAD leadership training programme 2015
  On 8th July 2015, 40 Form 3 students set off for London, Ontario, Canada to attend a two-week leadership camp organised by Brescia University College. The programme comprised a wide range of activities and lectures and we had numerous opportunities to build and apply our leadership qualities. The counsellors meticulously planned the activities of each day around a special theme, such as 'Framing Leadership', 'Confidence and Self-esteem', 'Understanding Differences' and 'Role Models', which allowed us to focus on one aspect of leadership at a time. We also learnt many valuable lessons, such as how every small action can impact people around us and that we should always try to set a good example to our juniors, who look up to us. St. Paul’s Convent School’s 160th Anniversary Open Days
  The St. Paul’s Convent School 160th Anniversary Open Days were held on the 4th, 5th and 6th of July, 2015. There had been high expectations of these days, and in the event everyone was more than delighted by what SPCS had to offer. It has been estimated that over the three days more than 10,000 people came through the doors to see what the school had laid on for them. These visitors were a complete cross-section of Hong Kong Society, from senior educational and political figures, to alumni, principals and teachers from neighbouring schools, parents, school students, friends and well-wishers. There was even a large party of visiting mainland teachers who came to take advantage of this opportunity to get an insight into one of the top schools in Hong Kong. Click here for more information.

160th Anniversary Open Day – Gastronomy Delights @ Home Economics Department
  On 4th July to 6th July 2015, the Home Economics Department of SPCS invited Chef Robert Fontana (Chairman of Asia, Disciples Escoffier International), Chef Ricky Cheung, Chef Jacky Yu and Towngas Cooking Centre Manager Ms. Pauline Wong to be our guest chefs on the occasion of our school's 160th Anniversary. It was a great opportunity for parents, alumni, guests and students to meet these renowned chefs, who inspired them with their professional and innovative cooking skills as well as many scrumptious dishes. 160th Anniversary Open Day – University Admission Talks
  On the afternoon of 6th July, 2015 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., admissions officers and student ambassadors from The University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology came to our school to give talks on university admission to our students, parents and other visitors. They introduced both JUPAS and Non-JUPAS requirements, as well as the uniqueness and culture of each university. The student ambassadors also shared with us their experiences of studying different subjects in different universities. These experiences, which cannot be learned from books and brochures, gave us a deeper insight into life at university. Pertinent questions were also raised during the talks, which enabled us to know more about specific systems and procedures for different faculties. Joint School Student Forum (6th July 2015)
  On 6th July, our school hosted the Joint School Student Forum. One of the highlights of our Open Day, it brought together young people from 8 distinguished schools in Hong Kong, including Queen’s College, St. Paul’s College, Diocesan Boys’ School, St. Paul’s School (Lam Tin), St. Paul’s Secondary School, DMHC Siu Ming Catholic Secondary School and NTHYK Yuen Long District Secondary School. 160th Anniversary Homecoming Dinner
  St. Paul’s Convent School held its 160th Anniversary Homecoming Dinner on 3rd July at the Grand Hall of the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, with great aplomb and ceremony. Parents, students, teachers, guests and alumni all came together on this joyous occasion to celebrate the many successes of the school over the past 160 years. Aeroplane Naming Ceremony
  A 3-day event, which was attended by nearly 100 people including guests, staff members, students and alumni, was held at Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (HAECO) in Chek Lap Kok, from 25th – 27th May 2015, to mark the naming of our RV-8 aeroplane. The event began on 25th May, when our honoured guests, Professor Tony Chan, President of the Council of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Professor Wei Shyy, Chair Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and Mr. John Chai, Executive Director of the Airport Authority, visited the aeroplane at the site. After a briefing on the aeroplane-building procedure by Cathay Pacific pilot, Mr. Hank Cheng, there was a photo-taking session in the cockpit of the plane! Click here for more information.

Macau Yuet Wah College Visit
  On 23rd May 2015, a group of teachers and vice-principals from Yuet Wah College, Macau, visited our school. After a short briefing on the history of the school by some Form Six students belonging to the Hospitality Team, our guests were provided with a general overview of the facilities at the school and our students' achievements. This was followed by a presentation on the school’s curriculum, Diversified Interest Programme, co-curricular activities, Prefects' Board and our Putonghua Immersion Programme in Beijing. The visit proved to be extremely informative, with our guests gaining a better understanding not only of our school but also the education system in Hong Kong. Edexcel IAL & IGCSE Academic Trainings
  From 20th May to 5th June 2015, a total of 5 training sessions on various IAL and IGCSE subjects (including IAL Physics, IAL Chemistry, IAL Biology, IGCSE Mathematics and IGCSE English as Second Language) were organized by Edexcel in our school. All sessions were conducted by examiners from Edexcel flying from UK to Hong Kong. The aim of these trainings was to bring into focus the issues, which include planning of the course and preparing students for examinations. The Bonaqua All H.K. Schools Jing Ying Badminton (Team) Tournament 2014-2015
  The Bonaqua All H.K. Schools Jing Ying Badminton (Team) Tournament 2014-2015 was held at Tseung Kwan O Sports Centre on 18th May, 2015. Our school's badminton team was the 2nd Runner-up. In the 2014-2015 school year, our school's badminton team was the Champion in B Grade competition. Our A Grade and C Grade teams won the 1st Runner-up prize. Our overall position was Champion. 中一韶關之旅
  細雨迷濛的夏日五月,中一全級師生共246人進入了韶關市,進行為期三天兩夜(2015年5月8日至10日)的遊學活動。是次活動除了讓初中生認識丹霞山的地質地貌,了解丹霞山作為世界自然遺產對當地環境、經濟及民生的機遇和挑戰,也讓學生親身體會國情,並拓闊了視野。 抵達丹霞山後,學生遊經了陽元山、天生橋、臥龍崗原始森林、錦石岩等自然景區,也參觀了地質博物館,對丹霞山的自然環境保育及發展有了更深的認識。活動範圍為自然山區,行程攀山過水,碰上首天細雨綿綿,學生們吃了點苦頭,但也窺見了丹霞山飄渺嫵媚的一面。當氣喘噓噓地攀到錦石岩上,俯瞰山下赭山碧水,聽那梵聲佛唱,不期然有遠離塵?,心靈滌蕩的感悟。也慨嘆大自然的瑰美,更深切明白自然保育的重要性。 Click here for more information.

International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, and Environment) Project Olympiad 2015 organized by Harmony Public Schools
  The I-SWEEEP Olympiad 2015 was successfully held in Houston, Texas in United States, from 7 to 11 May, 2015. The science fair brought together 427 top projects from 67 countries and 44 U.S. states to Houston where young researchers presented their innovative projects to take on today’s challenges in energy, engineering, and environment. Being one of the Hong Kong delegate teams, Tiffany Chan, Katherine Lai and Seraph Wu of F.6A presented their project “Devising a test kit to monitor heavy metal ions in industrial wastewater” in the contest. They attained Honourable Mention in the category of ‘Environment’ and were presented with certificates. Click here for more information.

Educational Trip to University of Macau and United International College
  A total of 24 people, including our Principal, teachers, parents and students, paid a short visit to the University of Macau (UM) and United International College (UIC) in Zhuhai, China, on 7th and 8th May 2015. On 7th May, we set off for Macau after the Swimming Gala. That evening, we had the opportunity to see the spectacular show, “The House of Dancing Water”, a production which combines acrobatics, ballet, high performance diving, drama, graphics and a love story! Annual Swimming Gala
  Our annual Swimming Gala was held at Victoria Park Swimming Pool on 7th May 2015. It was an extremely enjoyable experience for everyone, including swimmers, spectators, officials and cheerleaders. Our Guest of Honour, Mr. Kenneth CHEN Wei-on, SBS, Secretary General of the Legislative Council Secretariat, stressed that he was very impressed by the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie demonstrated by our students. Roche Young Scientist Award organized by Roche, Hong Kong Education City Limited and The School of Science of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  Maisie Luk, Cindy Jiang and Jennifer Kwong of F.2T participated in the final round judging of the Roche Young Scientist Award on 7th May, 2015 and attained the second runner-up with their project ‘Chrysanthemum – A Natural Disinfectant’. Malaysia Invitational Championship
  Charmaine Wong of 2U participated in the Malaysia Invitation Championship 2015 on 24th Apr 2015. Charmaine won the Champion prize in 400m Individual Medley and 4x100m Freestyle Relay events.   The 5th Hong Kong Games organized by Sports Commission, Leisure and Cultural Services Department as well as Hong Kong Table Tennis Association was held at Harbour Road Sports Centre from 19th April to 24th May.   In order to educate and support our students to become global citizens, our school joined the Fostering Citizenship Youth Program 2014-2015 organized by UNESCO Hong Kong. Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2015 organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Science Museum and supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation
  The Final Judging cum Award Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2015 was successfully held on 11th April 2015. Katherine Ho (5A), Lavinia Lau (5L), Denise Law (5U), Jaime Tsang (5U) and Ivy Tsang (5A) obtained the Honourable Mention and “Best Presentation Award” for their investigation project entitled “Homemade Pastel” in the Senior Division. 2014-2015 ESD Learning Programme
  The 2014-2015 ESD Learning Programme organised by UNESCO Hong Kong Association during October to March 2015, our students obtained good results with their project "Creating A Sustainable Environment to Live - Pokfulam Village. The team has received The Grand ESD Award Grade 3, Writted Group Project Report Award Grade 3, Presentation Award Grade 3 and the Champion of Best Poster Design Award. Hong Kong Inter-School Mock Trial Championship
  Twelve students from our school participated in the Hong Kong Inter-School Mock Trial Championship on 18 and 19 April 2015. After 4 rounds of strengeous battles, our Team got the 1st Runner-up. The 12 team members are Alison Chan and Stephanie Ng of F. 4P, Patricia Ricafort of F. 4A, Peary Chong of F. 5S, Jennifer Lau, Kristie Leung, Sherrie Ng, Andrea Wong and Priscilla Sung of F. 5T, Asai Karin and Eunice Yiu of F. 5P, and Jasmin Tsang of F. 5L as the team captain. 3 team members also got individual awards. Stem Cell Knowledge Exchange Programme Multimedia Design Competition (2014-2015)
  Our Form 5 students joined the Multimedia Design Competition of the Stem Cell Knowledge Exchange Programme organized by HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Consortium (SCRMC). They designed and presented their ibook about current issues on the cultural, societal and ethical implications of advances in stem cell research to the judges in the Hong Kong Science Park on 18th April, 2015. Hemans Leung and Annie Kong of F.5S won the champion, while Cherry Fung of F.5S, Tiffany Chu of F.5A and Esther Lee of F.5U attained the first runner-up.   The All Hong Kong Inter-Secondary Schools Gymnastics Competition 2015, organized by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Association, was held in Ma On Shan Sports Centre on 12th and 19th April, 2015. Christy Chan of 3A was the 1st Runner-up in the Vaulting event, 2nd Runner-up in the Beam event and 3rd Runner-up in the Floor Exercise and All Round section, in the Girls Junior Group. Staff Development: Jesuit Education Forum, 2015
  On the 11th of April, 15 of our teachers and our Principal have joined the Jesuit Education Forum organized by Wah Yan College Hong Kong and Wah Yan College Kowloon as part of their anniversaries’ programmes. Educators and scholars across the world shared their experiences and insights on the ideals and goals of Jesuit education. It was a fruitful experience for the teachers to deepen their understanding towards Ignatian heritage and education vision. The 160th Anniversary Retreat
  To celebrate the school’s 160th Anniversary, the Alumni Association organized a day retreat for alumni members, teachers, students and their parents on 4th April 2015. Through the eyes of the leading medieval theologian St. Bonaventure and his work entitled, “Tree of Life”, Reverend Bro. William Ng, OFM enabled us to feel Christ’s passion. Age Group Short Course Swimming Competition (Division II)
  Chelsea Ng of 2S participated in the Age Group Short Course Swimming Competition (Division II) on 30th March 2015 . Chelsea was the Champion in 200m Backstroke event.   The Inter-School Badminton Competition (C Grade) Finals, organized by Hong Kong School Sports Federation, was held at Chai Wan Sports Centre on 28th March, 2015. Our school’s badminton team was the 1st Runner-up and the team members were Maisie Luk of F.2T, Alison Kwok of F.2A, Christie Maw of F.1S, Jenny Wong and Cindy Yeung of F.1T, Jovanna Yue and Natalie Chan of F.1P, and Athena Lee of F.1U.   On 28th March, 2015, Paulinians from both junior and senior forms participated in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition 2014-2015 organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre. In the senior division, Eunice Yiu of F.5P received the 1st Place Award with her project “Organic Mosquito Repellents” while Katherine Ho, Ivy Tsang of F.5A and Denise Law of F.5U received the 3rd Place Award with their project “Homemade Pastel”. Provision of Students-Helpers for Sir Ellis Kadoorie (S) Primary School Sports’ Day
  On 26th March, 2015, 20 Paulinians assisted teachers at Sir Ellis Kadoorie (S) Primary School to run their Sports Day programme at Wan Chai Sports Ground. These students attended a briefing session by Mr. Loi, PE Panel of Sir Ellis Kadoorie (S) Primary School, on 23th March, 2015. They were then divided into groups and assigned various duties. Teachers of Sir Ellis Kadoorie (S) Primary School were very pleased to have our students assist them in the smooth running of their Sports Day programame. Our students found the event very meaningful, and it really allowed them to demonstrate the Paulinian 7 C’s. They enjoyed themselves very much and learnt a lot. Click here for more information.

The 13th CILTHK Essay Competition
  The 13th CILTHK Essay Competition was held recently in Hong Kong. Organizers say this competition is held in order to deepen the understanding of secondary school students in Hong Kong’s transportation and logistics industry. The topic this year was “Will Rationalisation of Bus Routes Improve Bus Service?” The Prize Giving Ceremony was held on Saturday, 21 March, 2015 at Lecture Theatre 5, Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong, Tsing Yi. The Hong Kong Athletics Series 2015-Series 2
  The Hong Kong Athletics Series 2015-Series 2, organized by the Hong Kong Amateur Athletics Association, was held at Wan Chai Sports Ground on 21st and 22nd March, 2015. Christy Chan of F.3A, Tracy Chui and Beanie Fung of F.3L and Hazel Yeung of F.6S won the 2nd Runner-up prize in the Women’s 4x100m Relay race. Click here for more information.

2014-15 Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award
  In addition to winning the SCMP Student of the Year Grand Prize last month, Eunice Yiu of F5P won the “2014-15 Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award”, organized by the Youth Arch Foundation. Eunice was one of eleven awardees who were selected out of 400 candidates from 120 secondary schools in Hong Kong. She was chosen for being an all-round student of good character, with good academic achievements, active participation in extra-curricular activities and devotion to community service. Annual Sports Day
  19th March 2015 was a very fine day, when our school gathered at Wan Chai Sports Ground for our annual Sports Day. It was an extremely enjoyable occasion for everyone, with the emphasis being on taking part and not winning. Athletes pushed themselves to achieve their personal best while the cheering teams spurred them on enthusiastically, with their creative routines. We were very pleased to have Mr. Jeff Sze, Political Assistant to the Secretary for Education, HKSAR Government, as our Guest-of-Honour. Visit by Pearson Director
  On March 10, 2015, St. Paul's Convent School was pleased to welcome Mr David Crowther, Director of International Products and Global Partnerships for Pearson plc. He was on a fact-finding tour of schools in Asia and was interested in finding out how St. Paul's found the latest Pearson products and whether we needed additional support. In particular he was interested in the implementation of Edexcel examination syllabi, but he was equally interested in how the new BTEC course development was progressing.   For the first time ever, St. Paul’s Convent School organized Family Fun Day, Carnaval en Famille, Joie en Action, as part of its decennial celebrations. Held on 7th and 8th March, this event was a jubilant milestone for all Paulinians and friends of the school, bringing together people of all ages and from different walks of life. SCMP Student of the Year Awards 2014
  Eunice Yiu of F.5P won the Student of the Year Grand Prize and Seraph Wu of F.6A became the first Student of the Year Scientist & Mathematician at the 34th Student of the Year Competition 2014 jointly organised by South China Morning Post and the Hong Kong Jockey Club. Judges highly praised Eunice for her strong leadership skills, commitment to all her interests and clear goals for her future, while Seraph impressed the judges with her passion for scientific research, as well as her dedication to community service. In addition, Seraph and Tina Ip of F.4S were the top 10 finalists for the Grand Prize and the Sportsperson categories respectively. The Student of the Year award presentation ceremony was held at the Sheraton Hotel on 28 February 2015 and both Eunice and Seraph were awarded HK$25,000 and HK$10,000 scholarships respectively for their achievements. International GCSE Redevelopment – Customer Focus Groups
  We were very happy to have Ms Lucy Stewart, Senior Academic Portfolio Manager, along with Ms Catherine Kwan, Senior Regional Development Manager and Ms Tiffany Cheung ( Sales and Marketing Executive) from Pearson (International) to come to our school on 10th February to host a focus group meeting with our Academic Team and teachers on the redevelopment of the IGCSE curriculum. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss about the existing qualifications and how it can be improved, progression requirements, as well as teaching and learning support Pearson can provide for teachers.   The Tai Po District Age Group Table Tennis Competition 2014-2015, organized by Leisure and Cultural Services Department was held in September 2014. Performance in FireAsia Gala Dinner 2015
  On 6th February, 2015, our Chinese Orchestra, Cantonese Opera and Chinese Dance Team were invited to perform for FireAsia Gala Dinner 2015 in HK Convention and Exhibition Center. The students performed a famous opera 《大唐笙歌》 and a beautiful Chaoxian Dance 《吉祥的鼓兒敲起來》which won the applause of all the audiences. It was a memorable event. Click here for more information.

The 4th Hong Kong Tri-Nation Netball Tournament
  The 4th Hong Kong Tri-Nation Netball Tournament was held at Kowloon Park Sports Centre from 29th January to 1st February, 2015. The netball teams from Chinese Taipei, Thailand and Hong Kong participated in this spectacular annual event. The Opening Ceremony was held on 30th January, 2015. 11 Paulinians took part in the dragon dance performance during the ceremony and they enjoyed themselves immensely. Horse Riding Day
  The Horse Riding Day was held on 24th January 2015 in the Jockey Club - Beas River Country Club. It was a very exciting experience for the sixty participants, most of whom were our alumni and their families. When they arrived at the club, they were taken on a tour around the stables. Then, they visited St. Paul’s House of Prayer, where they had tea with the sisters. Each participant got a horseshoe as a souvenir from the Jockey Club. The Wan Chai Youth Festival 2014
  The Wan Chai Youth Festival 2014 Closing Ceremony cum Talent Extravaganza, jointly organized by the Home Affairs Department (Wan Chai District), Wan Chai District Youth Programme Committee and St. James' Settlement, was held successfully at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on 17th January 2015. Our school’s cheerleading team was invited to perform at this mega event. All cheerleaders showed immense enthusiasm and performed energetically. 中四中五班際中文辯論比賽
  本年度的中四中五班際中文辯論比賽於十月至一月期間舉行,並在一月十四日舉行決賽。經過三個回合的激戰後,中五保和中四施成功躋身決賽。當日的辯題為「港府應推行全民退休保障」。本校有幸邀請到香港大學中文學院講師廖舜禧先生、香港大學社會工作及社會行政學系名譽教授周永新教授及扶貧委員會成員冼懿敏女士擔任評判。雙方同學都對辯題作出深入透徹的分析,經過一番唇槍舌劍,代表反方的中四施以二比一的票數勝出,而最佳辯論員則由反方中四施的陳欣翹同學奪得。 Click here for more information.

  10th January 2015 marked the opening of the very first Art Exhibition held at our school. The Dragon & Lion Dance Extravaganza 2015
  The Dragon & Lion Dance Extravaganza 2015, organized by the Hong Kong Dragon and Lion Festival Preparatory Committee, was held in Tsim Sha Tsui on 1st January, 2015. Local and foreign visitors enjoyed this colourful and thrilling festival tremendously, particularly the splendid Chinese Dragon and Lion Dance, Kung Fu performances. BTEC Portfolio Building
  The BTEC Portfolio Course was held on Thursday, 18 December, 2014 in room G6. The Instructor was Mr. Robert East from the UK. He gave a most informative lecture about how BTEC courses should be delivered and administered. Dealing with issues such as proper assessment guidance, how to track student performance and how to keep student work organised, he illustrated all his points with both slides and exemplars. He was clear, helpful and informative, and he addressed every question from the floor promptly. He was most concerned that all BTEC students would be enabled to do their best and that schools could run the BTEC system easily and smoothly. Click here for more information.

  The third PDS seminar entitled ‘Helping Students to Handle Difficult Questions’ was held on Tuesday, 16th December 2014, from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Convent School. A total of 13 persons from our school and three partner schools attended the seminar, including 3 teachers from HKSYCIA Wong Tai Shan Memorial College, 1 teacher from Queen’s College, 3 teachers from St. Joseph’s College, 5 staff members from SPCS and 1 representative from the EDB. Requiem Mass for Sr. Isabel of the Angels Narciso
  Sr. Isabel of the Angels’ Requiem Mass was held in Christ the King Chapel at 6:00 p.m. on 15th December 2014. Both past and present teachers and students of the two schools she had served in Hong Kong and her friends joined to bid her farewell as an act of respect to her. Rev. Sr. Joanna Cheung, the Provincial Superior of the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres first started the ceremony by giving the attendants the life history of Sr. Isabel. Then the mass was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Alfred Deignan, Rev. Fr. John Russell, Rev. Fr. John B. Kwan, Rev. Fr. Secundino Vicente and Rev. Fr. Emiliano Perez. Before the mass ended, two of her past students, Mrs. Lai and Ms. Annie Leung were invited to share their precious memory on Sr. Isabel. The mass ended with Fr. Deignan and all the co-celebrants leading all present to give her three bows. Prayer Service for Sr. Isabel of the Angels Narciso
  In the morning assembly on 15th December 2014, all the staff and students solemnly gathered at the school playground to pray for the repose of the soul of Sr. Isabel of the Angels Narciso who passed away in the Philippines on Sunday, 7th December 2014 at the age of 95. Staff Development Visit to the Learning and Teaching Expo 2014
  This years annual Learning and Teaching Expo took place from the 11th-13th December in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Over the course of the three days the Principal and staff attended many talks, workshops and presentations to discover the latest developments in educational resources and learning technology. The Expo hosted a combination of more than 200 exhibition booths showcasing new technology, furniture, e-learning platforms, robotic programming, mobile apps, game-based learning and many, many more. Hong Kong Award for Environmental Excellence
  As the Bronze Award winner of 2013 Hong Kong Award for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE), our school was invited to host the Green School Visit for the 13th Hong Kong Green School Award on 28th November, 2014. Around 80 guests, which included representatives from the Hong Kong Education Bureau, Macau Environmental Protection Department, Environmental Campaign Committee, together with teachers from Macau and Hong Kong primary and secondary schools, came for the visit. The Second PDS Seminar 2014-2015
  The second PDS seminar entitled ‘A Review of Globalization through Cooperative Learning’ was held on Friday, 28th November 2014, from 2:00 – 4:35 p.m. at Queen’s College. A total of 15 persons from our school and three partner schools attended the seminar, including 4 teachers from HKSYCIA Wong Tai Shan Memorial College, 2 teachers from Queen’s College, 2 teachers from St. Joseph’s College, 5 staff members from SPCS and 2 representatives from the EDB. 33 teachers from other schools, who had enrolled under the EMI Learning Community, joined the seminar. 2014 Hong Kong Island Outstanding Students Selection
  Seraph Wu of 6A and Tina Ip of 4S were among the ten Hong Kong Island Outstanding Students 2014 in the Senior Section and the Junior Section respectively. Selected by the Hong Kong Island School Head Association from over a hundred candidates and after two rounds of interviews, they were judged on their academic performance, leadership, special talents and involvement in community service. BTEC Start-Up Training Course
  St. Paul's was privileged to host a BTEC Training Course on 25-27 November, 2014. Mrs. Lesley Davies, Director of Quality and Standards for BTEC, and Catherine Kwan of Pearson (BTEC) HK, led a series of presentations that explained how St. Paul's could become an approved BTEC training centre. Present on the course was Sr. Margaret, and other senior management figures, as well as teaching staff interested in delivering a BTEC curriculum. EMPIRE MOCK TRIAL
  Twelve students from SPCS participated in the inaugural Empire Mock Trial in San Francisco, USA, from 20 to 24 November 2014. Among the 24 competing teams from around the world, our school team is the first Hong Kong Team to participate in an International High School Mock Trial Tournament. The Team only had around six weeks to prepare for this simulated court case. They had to prepare for both the Plaintiff and the Defence, acting as attorneys and witnesses to fight on behalf of their clients. The 5th French Speech Competition
  This year, with 32 French girls have participated in the 5th French Competition in Solo Poetry Speaking and in Choral Poetry Speaking and other students received outstanding results with 23 prize winners. Click here for more information.

Scholarship for Secondary School Students 2014
  In recognition of their excellent conduct and performance in academic work, extra-curricular activities and social service, Bella Chan and Tiffany Chan of F.6A and Kristy Mak of F.5P won the highly coveted Scholarship for Secondary School Students 2014, organised by the Bank of Communications Charitable Foundation (中學生獎學金 2014), from over 500 nominations.   The Wanchai District Age Group Table Tennis Competition organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department was held at the Harbour Road Sports Center on 16th November, 2014. Joey Yip of F.4S was the Champion in the Youth Singles competition. Joey also won the Championship in the Hong Kong Open (Girls’ Team C Event) competition, which was organized by the Hong Kong Table Tennis Association and held at the Cornwall Street Squash and Tennis Centre on 22nd November, 2014.   St. Paul’s Convent School’s annual Speech Day was held on 20th November 2014. It was a very special occasion, which allowed us to celebrate the achievements of our students. With the school entrance bedecked with flowers from numerous well-wishers, we welcomed parents, teachers, alumni and guests. World Heart Day 14-15
  On 16th November, 2014, nine of our students from the Health Club were invited by the St. Paul’s Hospital to take part in the World Heart Day 2014 organized by the Hong Kong College of Cardiology with the theme “Healthy Heart, Start from You”. Our Paulinians actively took part in running a game booth in the Happy Valley Racecourse in order to address the importance of a life-course approach to the prevention and control of cardiovascular diseases. The Yuen Long District Sports Festival 2014
  The Yuen Long District Sports Festival 2014 – Yuen Long Cheerleading Championships Open cum All Hong Kong Cheerleading Extravaganza, jointly organized by the Yuen Long District Sports Association and the Hong Kong Cheerleading Federation Hong Kong, China, subvented by the Yuen Long District Council, was held at Tin Fai Road Sports Centre on 8th November, 2014. Oxbridge Sharing Session
  On the 7th November, 2014, admissions tutors from Cambridge, as well as representatives from ARCH Education came to our school to share with our current and prospective Oxbridge applicants on how to perform better in Oxbridge interviews. Ms. Emma Humphries from ARCH first introduced the features and differences between Oxford and Cambridge, as well as what students should expect from these universities. 5 November 2014 SPCS Outing: Appreciating the “I” in DIP!
  November 2014 was Innotech Month and Hong Kong Science Park hosted Innocarnival, an exhibition that showcased the latest technology in our daily lives. It focused on “Intelligent Living, Quality Living and Green Living.” SPCS students from the AppJamming, CSL and Robotics DIP – Diversified Interest Programme – had the opportunity to extend their interests through exploration, engagement and experience. Staff Development Outing: Innocarnival 2014
  On the 5th of November a group of English and Maths teachers visited the Innocarnival – a showcase of over 500 interesting and educational activities. This interactive exhibition took place at the newly opened phase 3 of the Hong Kong Science Park as part of the annual InnoTech month. The theme this year was “Technology for a Better Future” and teachers were able to learn about and participate in a diverse range of activities with a focus on Intelligent Living, Quality Living and Green Living.   Our students got brilliant results in the Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events 2014 held at the Hong Kong Science Park on the 1st of November 2014. Suie Lo From F. 5T, Amanda So from F. 5A and Natalie Mak from F. 5U obtained First Runner-up and the First Class Award for their design in the 手搖發電智能機械模型車(高級組)探索賽, while Caren Au from F. 5T, Denise Law and Priscilla Wong from F. 5U obtained Second Class Award in 太陽能模型車大賽. BOCHK Hong Kong Youth Badminton Championships 2014
  Tina Ip of F.4S was the 2nd runner up in Women’s singles (Year 99-01) in the BOCHK Hong Kong Youth Badminton Championships 2014 organized by the HKBA in August. Tina was also the 2nd runner-up in the 36th President Cup Hong Kong Badminton Team Championships 2014 Women Intermediate group organized by the HKBA in October 2014. Moreover, Tina received the 1st place in the 2013/14 分區青年軍羽毛球全能大比武-個人全能項目 organized by the HKBA. Click here for more information.

Blood Donation Day
  The annual blood donation day was successfully organized by the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Centre on 31st October 2014. The donation procedure started with a haemoglobin test. This was followed by a chat with the nurse and then the actual blood donation. Afterwards, donors were given some refreshments and time to rest. The event ended successfully at 5:00pm. This year, 80 Paulinians (and teachers) participated in this meaningful event, showing their altruistic hearts and concern for the needy. Click here for more information.

Gifted Sharing Workshop at Queen’s College
  On 25th October, students from our school were invited to participate in the “Gifted Sharing Workshop” organized by Queen’s College. During the workshop, representatives from the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups introduced the two competitions, Odyssey of the Mind and the World GreenMech Contest, to us. Later on, students from Queen’s College shared their prize-winning designs with us. We were impressed by the way they had made use of 18g of Balsa wood, which is a type of light yet strong wood, to create a structure that was capable of withstanding a weight of 800 pounds! The 14th Awarding Program for Future Scientists organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Engineering, National Natural Science Foundation of China and H. S. Chau Foundation Limited
  The Final Judging of the 14th Awarding Program for Future Scientists (第十四屆「明天小小科學家」獎勵活動) was successfully held in Beijing, from 23 to 30 October 2014. One hundred finalists were selected from 669 representatives from 26 provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China. They were judged on a written test on scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment on personal quality and a project presentation. Ranking top 3 among the finalists, Seraph Wu of F.6A won the Future Scientist Award with her project entitled ‘Metallic Rainbow’. Annual Inter-Class Dance Competition 2014 - 2015 on 17th October, 2014
  The annual Inter-Class Dance Competition was successfully held on 17th October 2014 in the school hall. A total of 24 classes took part in the event. With great passion and enthusiasm, students performed a variety of dances in different genres, ranging from modern to pop. Finally, Form 4S won the Overall Champion award.   Beatrice Law of F.4P was the Champion in Senior Girl Group of the Joint School Orienteering Championship, held by HKCEO on 11th October, 2014. Besides, Beatrice was the 2nd Runner-up in W16 of the HKOC Committee Cup cum Open Event 2014/2015, held by the HKOC on 12th October, 2014. Lastly, Beatrice was the 1st Runner-up in W16 Sprint Event and 2nd Runner-up in W16 Middle/Long Distance Event of the Hong Kong Orienteering Ranking League, held by OAHK on 19th October, 2014 and 23rd November, 2014.   Charmaine Wong of F.2U was the Champion of 200m Backstroke in the Tuen Mun District Swimming Gala on 7th September 2014. Charmaine was the Champion of 200m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke in the Shatin District Swimming Gala on 14th September 2014. Moreover, Charmaine was the Champion in 200m Freestyle,100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke in the Yau Tsim Mong District Swimming Gala on 21st September 2014. On 5th October 2014 , Charmaine was the Champion of 200m butterfly in In the Sai Kung District Swimming Gala. Lastly, Charmaine was the Champion of 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke and 4x100m Medley Relay in the 29th New Territories Inter District Swimming Gala which was held on 19th Oct 2014. A School Visit by Principal and Staff from Queen’s College
  On 17th October 2014, Ms Li Sui-wah, the Principal of Queen’s College, visited our school along with her teachers, to share ideas on IT issues related to schools, such as the development of mobile learning technolgy, e-learning platforms and IT management system. The Inter-School Swimming Competition
  The Inter-School Swimming Competition, organized by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation, was held at Kowloon Park Swimming Pool on 16th and 24th October, 2014. Charmaine Wong of F. 2U was the 1st Runner-up in the C Grade 50m Backstroke event. She also came 4th in the 200m Individual Medley event. Megan Tam of F.4U came 4th in the B Grade 50m Butterfly event. In the C Grade 4x50m Freestyle Relay event, our school got 4th place. The team members were Regine Tam of F.1S, Janis Dong of F.1L, Allison Lau of F.2S and Rachel Lin of F.2A. Moreover, in the C Grade 4x50m Medley Relay event, our school got 4th place. Installation Ceremony
  The Installation Ceremony, which was held on 15th October, 2014, marked the official commencement of the duties of the new prefects and monitors of the school. The ceremony began with a solemn prayer led by Tiffany Chu (5T), which was followed by an introductory speech by our Head Prefect Eunice Yiu (5P). The Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletic Meet 2014
  The Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletic Meet 2014 organized by HKAAA was held at Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground and Wan Chai Sports Ground on 11th, 12th, 18th and 19th October, 2014. In Grade A, Martina Chan of F.6T was the 2nd Runner-up in Long Jump event. In Grade B, Christy Chan of F.3A was the 2nd Runner-up in Long Jump event. Tina Ip of F.4S was the Champion in Javelin event. In Grade C, Priscilla Ho of F.1U was the 2nd Runner-up in 1500m race, Winsome Liu of F.1T, Christina Chan of F.1A, Natalie Ku of F.1U and Maisy Lai of F.2P won the 2nd Runner-up prize in 4x400m Relay. St. Paul’s Convent School Celebrates its 160th Anniversary on 7 & 9 October 2014
  On 7th and 9th October 2014, St. Paul’s Convent school celebrated its 160 Anniversary at the Jockey Club Auditorium of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. With three major performances over the two days, and public protests threatening to disrupt the smooth running of rehearsals, St. Paul’s secondary, primary and even kindergarten students and staff, responded to the extraordinary situation magnificently. “The show must go on!” was the order of the day.   St.Paul’s Convent School, its parents, students from all three sections and alumni, all gathered at the Jockey Club Auditorium of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, to celebrate another year of wonderful achievements on October 8, 2014.The event was doubly meaningful as not only were the successes of the previous year revisited, but so too were the accumulated achievements of the school on this, its 160th anniversary.   WAC Annual Challenge 2014 organized by Watsons Athletics Club was held at Ma On Shan Sports Ground on 2nd, 4th and 5th October, 2014. In Grade A, Bonnie Wu of F.4A and Martina Chan of F.6T was 2nd Runner-up and 1st Runner-up in Long Jump event. Hazel Yeung of F.6S was 2nd Runner-up in 200m race and 1st Runner-up in 100m race. Phoebe Lo of F.6P was 2nd Runner-up in 100m race. In Grade B, Tina Ip of F.4S was the Champion in Javelin event. She also made a new record. A School Visit by the Principal and IMC Managers of St. Joseph’s College
  On 23rd September 2014, our school was delighted to receive the Principal of St. Joseph’s College, Mrs. Caroline Chan, along with nine managers from the Incorporated Management Committee of the school. Valuable ideas were shared on issues related to teaching and learning at SPCS. Our guests also enjoyed the tour around our school and were impressed by our modern, high-tech classrooms and laboratories. The day ended on a high note with tea refreshments in the Synergy Corner. The 2013 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence
  Our school competed in the 2013 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (Sectoral Awards) and obtained Bronze Award in the Secondary School Category on 22nd September, 2014. Incheon Asian Games
  Samantha Cheung of F.4P represented Hong Kong in both the Technical Team and Free Team events of Synchronized Swimming at the Incheon Asian Games held in South Korea from 20th to 23rd September. The overall position of the Hong Kong team was 6th. Click here for more information.

Medical Outreach Programme
  On 14th September 2014, a group of 16 Form 5 students volunteered in the “Health Check for Healthy Life”, which was held in HKTA The Yuen Yuen Institute No.3 Secondary School, Tseung Kwan O. It was a charity event organized by Hong Kong Credible Care Volunteers Association and supported by St. Paul’s Hospital and Home Affairs Department. In this event, registered minorities were given basic health assessment free-of-charge and our girls were capable of running the blood pressure stations on their own. In the last school year (during the DIP sessions), our girls had acquired basic medical knowledge from Dr. Chan, our honorary alumni and a practicing physician. Platform Speech
  On 10th September, 20 Form 5 Paulinians, who are the 2014-2015 Prefects’ Board members, delivered their platform speeches to the entire school. In their speeches, they talked about their strengths and qualities, and how they can use their leadership skills for the benefit of the school. They also expressed their gratitude to the school for all the support they had received over the years. After listening to all 20 platform speeches, teachers and Paulinians voted for the Head Prefect and two Vice-Head Prefects. Teachers Day 2014-2015
  “Teachers are like candles, the guiding lights that open up endless possibilities for us and take us on many adventures.” In order to express our gratitude to our Principal, Rev. Sr. Margaret Wong and all teachers and staff, the annual Teachers’ Day celebration was held on 10th September, 2014. Representatives from the junior forms expressed their thanks and appreciation on stage whilst the senior form students put up a bubbly act. Songs and dances were dedicated to all teachers and deliciously hand-made marshmallows were distributed to them for the untiring support and guidance they had provided to Paulinians over the years. Cardinal John Tong celebrates Opening Mass for 160th Anniversary of St. Paul’s Convent School in Christ the King Chapel
  On 10th September 2014, the priests and sisters of the parish, our teaching and non-teaching staff, the whole student body, alumni and other well-wishers of our school united in prayer and thanksgiving in the presence of His Eminence, Cardinal John Tong and ten concelebrants in honor of our 160 Anniversary. We thanked God for the many blessings He has bestowed upon the Paulinian family over the past 160 years. After the Holy Communion, there was a ceremony to mark the commissioning of the new officers of the Catholic Movement Committee (CMC) and the presidents of the seven religious clubs. This was a reminder to them of their call to be the Salt of the Earth and Light of the World and thus contribute to the enhancement of the religious atmosphere at SPCS and unite Paulinians in Christ’s love. Club Moderators' and Officers' Training
  On 6th September 2014, a training workshop was organised in the school hall for all teachers, club moderators and officer bearers of all clubs. The workshop began with Mrs. J. Wong briefing everyone on the programmes that would be held to celebrate our 160th Anniversary this year. She then explained the roles and duties of moderators and the major committees. This was followed by a demonstration of our school's webpage and the school intranet system. Then, Miss J Fok and Mrs. M Arriaga gave students instructions on how to prepare their clubs’ bulletin boards and financial statements respectively while Mrs. D. Tam instructed students on the school magazine requirements. Finally, our school social worker, Ms. Shirley Man highlighted different voluntary service movements and encouraged our students to join them. It was a fruitful morning. 4th Healthy Choice Cooking Competition
  On 5th September 2014, Katie Au (6S) and Alvis Tang (6S) participated in the “4th Healthy Choice Cooking Competition” (第四屆健康飲食設計及烹飪比賽) and had obtained Potential Business Award (商業潛力獎). They designed and cooked their own recipes, which were two dishes and a soup made with Ka Mei Chicken (嘉美三弄).   On 3rd September 2014, Sister Kim, the Principal of Bakmun Girls’ High School in Korea, visited our school along with her teachers, to learn more about the education system in Hong Kong. They were briefed on the all-round achievements of our Paulinians and a Korean TV show featuring our school, which had been filmed by one of their broadcasting companies, was also shown to them.   Beatrice Law pf F,4P participated in the 2014 Youth Park Orienteering Day held by the HK Orienteering Club on the 10th of August, 2014 and got the Champion in 13-18 years old age group. Z Carbon Pioneer Project
  Zonta Z Club has participated in the Z Carbon Pioneer Project organised by the Zonta Club of the New Territories, Zonta Club of Hong Kong, and Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden Corporation in the last academic year and has won the "Best Project Award 2013-2014" among the six schools.   The Panasonic 10th Hong Kong Synchronized Swimming Open Competition 2014, organized by the Hong Kong Amateur Association, was held at Kowloon Park Swimming Pool from 29th-31st August, 2014.Samantha was the Champion of the Free Solo event (Age 13-15) in the local and international groups, Free Duet event (Age 13-15) in the local group, Figure event (Age 13-15) in the local group, Free Team event (Age 13 and above group) in the local and international groups and Figure event (Age 13-15) in the international group. She was also 1st Runner-up in the Free Duet event (Age 13-15) in the international group and Technical Duet event (Open Age Group) in the local and international groups. Staff Development Day
  The first Staff Development programme for this year was held on 26th August 2014, on the theme “21st Century Skills Required of Teachers”. It was conducted by Dr. Stephen Wu, a psychologist, who instructed teachers on different ways to renew their strengths, in order to embrace the 160th Anniversary of SPCS. Leadership Training Camp
  The leadership training camp of 2014-2015 took place on the 23rd to 24th of August, 2014 in the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp. 6 teachers and current Prefects’ Board members joined the newly-elected school prefects for leadership training. School prefects participated in exciting team building games such as dodge ball and bamboo raft construction. Through these activities, the prefects learnt the importance of cooperation in overcoming obstacles. Their confidence and determination to serve the school were also enhanced after the training. International Children's Painting Competition
  Cherry Kwan of F.6P participated in the International on-site painting competition "Small Montmartre in Bitola 2014" held from 23rd to 29th May 2014. She received the Best Collection Team Award and the Golden Brush Award. She also participated in the International Children's Painting Competition in Hong Kong held from 25th to 30th August 2014, organized by Promotion of Young Artist Foundation. 29th China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, The Ministry of Education and The Ministry of Science and Technology
  Seraph Wu of F.5A participated in the 29th China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest held in Beijing from 20th to 26th August, 2014. 370 individual and team projects were presented in the contest. Seraph presented her project entitled “Metallic Rainbow”, which impressed the audience very much. Her booth also attracted many people in the Open Exhibition. She won the 2nd Place Award, the Intel Talent Award and the Guangdong Science Centre Special Award. In addition, she won a silver medal, a cash prize of RMB$2000 and certificates. Korea Exchange Tour
  Our F.5 Chemistry team participated in the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2014 Korea Exchange Tour from 21st to 25th August 2014. The programme included visits to Korea Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources, National Science Museum, Gwacheon National Science Museum and Seoul National University, where students met experts from various scientific fields. Being one of the teams from Hong Kong, Sonia Chan (5P), Tiffany Chan (5A), Katherine Lai (5A) and Dorothy Lau (5P) presented their project entitled “Metallic Rainbow” to students of Seoul National University. Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme
  From over five hundreds nominations, Christy Leung (F.4S), Heidi Chan (F.4T), Jocelyn Mak (F.4P), Claudia Kong (F.4A), Emily Choi, Jennifer Lau and Prisicilla Sung (F.4U) were selected to participate in an intensive training programme on service skills and concepts under the Hong Kong Young Ambassador Scheme jointly organized by the Tourism Commission of the HKSAR Government and the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. Ann Han (F.4A), Seraph Wu and Serena Yue (F.5A) were awarded for their outstanding performance and dedicated service in the Young Ambassador Scheme 2013-2014.   The two-week Stanford International Youth Camp (“SIYP”) 2014 at the prestigious Stanford University, USA, was yet another exciting summer experience for our students. From August 5 to August 19, 2014, a batch of thirty form 3 students, accompanied by three chaperones, attended the SIYP program. 2014 Australian National Chemistry Quiz organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematic Education
  Some of our F.5 and F.6 students participated in the 2014 Australian National Chemistry Quiz organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education. The result has finally released on 15th November. Ranking top 800 among 110,000 entries from over 1,600 schools throughout Australian and 17 neighbouring countries, Seraph Wu of F.6A was presented the “Award of Excellence” plaque and a certificate.   From over a hundred nominations, Bella Chan (F5A) and Eunice Yiu (F4S) were selected as the prize winners of the “I Love Hong Kong – 10 Model Teenagers 2014” organized by the “We Love Hong Kong” Association. Candidates were judged on their academic performance, leadership, active participation in extra-curricular activities and devotion to community service. South China Media – 16th Hong Kong Secondary School Cooking Competition – 1st Runner-up & The Best Cheerleading Team Award
  On 19th July 2014, Katie Lam (F.4T), Agnes Chan (F.5P) and Joanne Lee(F.5P) and our Cheerleading Team members Jasmine Choy (F.2S), Vicky Chiu (F.2T), Tinbo Chui (F.2T), Linda Wu (F.2T), Jennifer Kwok (F.2U), Anna Li (F.2U), Jenny Ng (F.2L), Divya Pradhan (F.3L), Mahum Nayyar Shaikh (F.3L), Meg Yuen (F.4P), and Michelle Anne Raymundo (F.4L), participated in South China Media’s 16th Hong Kong Secondary School Cooking Competition Finale. The dish “Fishermen’s Lullaby” 漁舟唱晚 was highly appreciated by the judges and the cheerleading team’s performance was a spectacular success.   The Wong Tai Sin District Age Group Table Tennis Competition, organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, was held at Po Kong Village Road Sports Centre on 18th July, 2014. Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition
  Phoebe Lo (5P) won the fourth prize in the “Help the Police Fight Youth Crime Competition” organised by Hang Seng Bank on 17th July, 2014. She became the Hong Kong Fight Crime Ambassador and joined an exchange tour to Australia last summer. She visited different police units, such as the Police Community Youth Club and the New South Wales Police Mounted Unit, in Sydney and Melbourne. This provided an opportunity for Phoebe to learn about the local police units and to promote mutual exchange between the Hong Kong and Australian police forces. Click here for more information.

27th Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Outstanding Students Selection (2014)
  After three rounds of interviews and an exposure camp, Seraph Wu of F.5A was selected out of several hundreds of candidates to be one of the Ten Awardees in the 27th Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Outstanding Students Selection (2014), co-organized by the HKSAR Outstanding Students Union and the Junior Chamber International Hong Kong. Seraph was chosen based on her good character, academic excellence, active participation in extra-curricular activities and devotion to community service.   The North District Age Group Table Tennis Competition, organized by Leisure and Cultural Services Department, was held at Luen Wo Hui Sports Centre on 13th July, 2014. Social Service Award Scheme
  The Junior Police Call has won the 1st runner-up in the Social Service Award Scheme organized by the Wanchai Districton on 11th July, 2014 . PhoebeLo (F.6P) and Ruby Chan (F.6L) were also awarded as ‘The Outstanding JPC Members’. The scheme aims at spreading the message of anti-crime and developing students’ sense of responsibility towards the society through various social services. Click here for more information.

Second-hand book sale
  The second-hand book sale was successfully held on 10th and 11th of July, 2014. Senior students sold textbooks to lower form students at 50% discount. Through this activity, students display the Paulinian spirit of helping each other. It also promotes conservancy as books can be used repeatedly. The activity was hugely successful, with active participation from buyers and sellers alike. Participants were all very enthusiastic as they could purchase books at discounted price.   The Future Leaders Prize Presentation Ceremony (明日領袖獎頒獎禮) organized by The Outstanding Young Person’s Association, Education Bureau and the Youth Arch Foundation was held on 9th July 2014.   On 9th July 2014, our F.4 students participated in a leadership training programme in our school hall. Mathematics Book Report Competition for Secondary Schools (2013/2014)
  Ellie To (F.3S) and Qianna Chung (F.3T) obtained a First Class award and a Second Class award respectively in the Mathematics Book Report Competition for Secondary Schools (2013/2014) organized by EDB. The winning entries are based on the books "Mathematics for the Imagination" and "How to lie with charts". Mr R Li, their adviser, attended the prize-giving ceremony together with them on 9th July. Report on the Fifth Professional Development School Seminar 2013-2014
  The fifth PDS seminar entitled ‘Use of Apps in Teaching and Celebration of Success’ was held on Tuesday, 8th July 2014 from 2:30 p.m. – 5:15 p.m. at SKH St. Mary’s Church Mok Hing Yiu College. The workshop was a joint venture, attended by 24 persons from 6 schools, including our school, three partner schools and two other schools.   On 7th to 18th July, 24 Form 4 students participated in the STEM Summer School at Imperial College, London. Their horizons have been broadened as they attended vivid academic courses of Chemistry and Mathematics, made friends with their college mentors, and ventured London’s magnificent scenic spots. Digichem” Video Production Competition for Hong Kong Secondary Schools 2014 organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education
  The prize-giving ceremony of the “Digichem” Video Production Competition for Hong Kong Secondary Schools 2014 was successfully held on 5th July 2014. Two teams of students from our school participated in the competition and produced videos entitled “The Lying Copper Ring” and “MSG Test Kit”. Jennifer Mak and Heidi Suen of F.3S and Qianna Chung of F.3T were the Champion team in the junior secondary division while Sonia Chan and Dorothy Lau of F.5P were the Champion team in the senior secondary division. Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools (2013-14) organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, Hong Kong Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry and the Education Bureau
  On 5th July 2014, Sonia Chan and Dorothy Lau of F.5P and Tiffany Chan, Katherine Lai and Seraph Wu of F.5A presented their project entitled ‘Metallic Rainbow’ in the final round of the Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools 2013-14.   The Hong Kong Synchronized Swimming Routine Competition 2014 organized by Hong Kong Amateur Association was held at Kowloon Park Swimming Pool on 6th July, 2014. Samantha Cheung of F.3P was the Champion in Free Solo event (age 13-15) as well as Free Duet event (age 13-15). Samantha also received the Silver award in Technical Duet event (open age group). Celebration of Success
  The Celebration of Success programme was held in our school hall on 4th July, 2014. We were glad to have Dr. Cecilia Lam, CEO of Rehabaid Society, as our Guest of Honour. During the programme, student volunteers shared their experiences of the different kinds of voluntary service they had done during the DIP lessons on Wednesdays. Students who had joined the Switch on Dreams projects, namely Nurturing Cooking Talents with Hearing Impaired Peers, Medical Outreach Support for the Elderly and Writing eBooks for the Elderly, also shared their meaningful experiences with the audience. In particular, the Cleft Lip Service Tour in Dan Shui, China, in which our students worked with medical practitioners from the US, was most touching. Click here for more information.

  The Prize Presentation Ceremony of Hong Kong Youth Painting Day 2014 was successfully held on 1st July 2014. Katherine Wong of F.5T and Stephanie Tam of F.4A both received Merit award for their paintings of the scenery in Wan Chai. French Immersion Programme 2014
  On the 30th June 2014, 41 students of our school went to Loches in France for 2 weeks of Immersion Programme, accompagnied by 5 teachers. They stayed in St. Denis International School to have French lessons in the morning from 9 am to 12:30 pm, and every day in the afternoon they had different cultural activities, for example, they visited a goat cheese factory, a chocolate factory, two castles and they also practised golf. They also went to Paris for the week-end and visited the famous monuments like Eiffel Tower, Arc of Triumph, Champs-Elysees, Notre Dame Cathedral, the Sacred Heart and Montmartre. Brescia tour 2014
  June 30th 2014 was not only St. Paul’s Day but it was also the start of the tour to Brescia University College in London, Ontario, Canada, for 30 F.3 Paulinians and 3 of our teachers. Through the different activities that the counselors had organized for us, we had a better understanding of ourselves and learnt valuable lessons in leadership. The Low Ropes Challenge, for example, taught us the importance of teamwork and that trying to execute a task on one’s own can lead to conflicts. Every member in a group plays an important role and is essential to the completion of a task. We also learnt that one of the keys to success is effective communication and cooperation with others. Study Tour to Spain 30th June – 12th July 2014
  Hola! This year 50 students from Forms 1, 2, 3 & 4 took part in a study and cultural tour to Avila, Spain. In the mornings, the students had 5 hours of Spanish lessons at the University of Salamanca, Avila Campus. They were divided into 4 levels based on ability and aptitude. The lessons consisted of 3 hours of Spanish language, 1 hour of Communication and 1 hour of Spanish culture.Although they were reticent at first, the students quickly gained confidence and towards the end of the first week they were willing to speak up and communicate with their teachers. During their visit the students got to put their Spanish to practical use when shopping and exploring various Spanish cities. Click here for more information.

St Paul’s Day
  St Paul’s Day was successfully held on 30th June, 2014. The day started with a mass held in the Christ of the King Chapel. All teachers and students gathered to celebrate the feast day of our patron saint. The mass was followed by the St. Paul’s Day Programme, in which the F.6 students made a video called “6 kinds of Paulinians”. It focused on their school life, friendship and Paulinian spirit. Reminiscing fond memories and conveying heartfelt gratitude to their teachers were also expressed. To end the happy occasion, students sang “Friends” and the school hymn. The Ground-breaking Ceremony for our new green block - Smart Oasis
  29th June 2014, St. Paul’s Day, was a day of thanksgiving for the Paulinian family. It was also the day when we laid the foundation for our new green block, Smart Oasis, on our school campus. The Ground-breaking Ceremony was held in the afternoon to commemorate the event. We were very honoured to have Rev. Fr. Michael Yeung, Vicar General of the Hong Kong Catholic Diocese, and Rev. Fr. Patrick Sun, who is also a Paulinian, officiate at the ceremony. We were also pleased to have our recently formed Alumni Choir and our Catholic Choir lead us in the singing during the ceremony. Prosecution Week
  On 26th June 2014, Paulinians were invited to attend a Prosecution Week event held by the Department of Justice, on the theme “Fearless, Accountable, Impartial, Robust”. The activity was jointly organized by the English Debating Society and the Careers Team to promote students’ awareness of the rule of law. A detailed briefing on the work of the Prosecutions Division provided an opportunity for Form 5 students to consider work in court as a possible career option in the future. Students also visited the District Court and did a role-play activity in the Mock Court, which enabled them to observe the operation of court proceedings. Film/Video Production Summer Camp in Zhuhai
  From 23rd to 28th June 2014, 24 Form 4 to Form 6 students, accompanied by four teachers, travelled to United International College in Zhuhai, China, to study film production. The one-week programme consisted of classes including Aesthetics in Film, Introduction to Non-fiction Video Production, Script Writing, Video Cinematography and Film & Video Editing. The course was intensive and equipped students with professional skills and knowledge of film production. They were able to apply what they had learnt and produce their own microfilm on the campus. Age Group Short Course and Long Course Swimming Competition
  Charmaine Wong of F.2U participated in the Age Group Short Course and Long Course Swimming Competition (Division 1) on 15th June 2014 and 20th July 2014 organized by the HKASA. She was the Champion in 200m Backstroke and the 2nd Runner-up in 400m Individual Medley. Charmaine also participated in the 2014 HKCASA Long Course Swimming Championship on 6th July 2014 and 13th July 2014. She has obtained 2nd Runner-up in 200m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke and 4x100m Medley Relay. Click here for more information.

Workshop on Legal Issues in School
  The workshop was held in the primary school hall on 9th June from 9 am to 1 pm. Around two hundred teachers coming from the primary and secondary section of St. Paul’s Convent School and St. Pual’s Secondary School participated in the workshop. It proved to be successful and fruitful as the speakers, Professor Chris Lam and Solicitor Ms. Vera Lam gave valuable information on legal issues in school. Click here for more information.

Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2014 organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Science Museum and supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation
  The Final Judging cum Award Presentation Ceremony of the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2014 was successfully held on 31st May 2014. Sonia Chan, Dorothy Lau of F.5P and Tiffany Chan, Katherine Lai, Seraph Wu of F.5A won the Championship and the “Water Science Award” for their investigation project named “Metallic Rainbow” in the Senior Division. They received a trophy and certificates. The team will be sponsored to a Korea exchange programme in late August. HKU Nursing Admission Talk
  We were very pleased to have Dr. Agnes Tiwari, Head of the School of Nursing (HKU) and Ms. Emily Yuen, an outstanding student ambassador, give our students an admission talk on 30th May 2014. Professor Tiwari, who had wanted to be a nurse ever since she was a child, introduced the importance of medical advancement in the field of nursing. She also emphasized that nurses were as essential to the medical profession as doctors. Furthermore, the guest speakers provided detailed and valuable information, such as the responsibilities of nurses and the future prospects of graduates. The Opening Ceremony of the 16th Secondary School Cooking Competition
  The Opening Ceremony of the 16th Secondary School Cooking Competition was held at Cyberport on 31st May, 2014. The ‘Taste Ambassadors’ of the year were celebrities Corinna Chamberlain and Michelle Wai and they started the competition along with special guest Vincy Chan. Our school’s cheering team was invited to perform on this grand occasion and the 6 Paulinians, Joyce Chan of F.4S, Katie Lam of F.4T, Hilda Cheng, Jocelyn Mak and Meg Yuen of F.4P, and Irena Wong of F.4S, who participated in this event enjoyed themselves immensely.   The Under 20 Fencing Championships 2014, organized by the Hong Kong Fencing Association and the Cultural Services Department, was held at the Hong Kong Sports Centre on 24th May, 2014. Debbie Ho of F.5U was the Champion in the Under 17 Women’s Epee event and the 2nd Runner-up in the Under 20 Women’s Epee event in the Under 20 Fencing Championships 2014.   The 14th Macao Open and Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championship 2014 was held at Aquatic Center of the Olympic Sports Centre, Macao from 23 to 25th May, 2014. In the Age Group of 13-15, Samantha Cheung of F.3P was the Champion in Free Routine Solo event, the 3rd Runner-up in Figure event. Workshop on Student Assessment
  On the 21st May 2014 teachers from English, Chinese and Maths Department attended a workshop for student assessment conducted by the HKEAA. The workshop aimed at introducing to teachers the "Student Assessment" system. This SA system is an online assessment tool that allows teachers conduct assessment according to their students’ needs and learning progress so as to enhance the effectiveness of student learning. 2013 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence Awards presentation Ceremony
  On 2 May 2014, our school was very honoured to receive the 2013 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) Bronze Award for Secondary School Subsector in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event was organized by Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC) to recognize the great effort of the school in promoting excellent environmental practises and management in the secondary school sectors. Mr Wong Kam-sing, JP, the Secretary for the Environment was invited as the officiating guest of ceremony and our Principal, Sister Margaret Wong received the trophy from one of the guests of ceremony.   The PDS Student forum on the 'HKSAR government 2014 Policy Address and Financial Budget' was held on Wednesday, 30th April 2014 from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Convent School. This student forum was the first of its kind in PDS activities in Hong Kong. 42 students, from different schools in Hong Kong, took part in this inter-school event. Danish National Science Fair 2014 organized by Danish Science Factory
  Sabrina Leung of F.6U participated in the Danish National Science Fair 2014 held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 24th April to 1st May, 2014. This science fair is an annual forum for high school students in Denmark and delegations from affiliated fairs to display top projects and independent research. Sabrina won the 1st Prize for her project "The Ultimate Maillard Formula to Gastronomic Wonders" and went on stage to receive a scholarship of US $300 and a certificate from Prince Joachim and the Minister of Education of Denmark! The ISI Glacier Open and Basic Challenge 2014
  The ISI Glacier Open and Basic Challenge 2014, organized by the Ice Skating Institute of Asia, was held at the Festival Walk Glacier on 24th and 26th April, 2014. Chloe Tang of F.2T was the Champion of the Stroking Competition, 1st Runner-up of the Duel (Jump and Spin) Competition as well as 2nd Runner-up of the Solo Competition. Wharf Hong Kong Secondary School Art Competition 2013 – 2014
  Clarice Hong, of F.5T, participated in the Wharf Hong Kong Secondary School Art Competition 2013 – 2014. She won the Championship for her painting, “The Crows”, and received a trophy, a certificate, a cash prize of HK $5000 and a book voucher of HK $5000! She was also invited to join an overseas cultural exchange tour. In addition, she will have the opportunity to take part in courses offered by renowned art institutions in Hong Kong. She can also apply to the Wharf (Holdings) Limited for a scholarship to pursue further studies in Art. The exhibition is now being held in Harbour City and will last up to 21st April. Stem Cell and Society Booth Competition
  Two teams of our students joined the Stem Cell and Society Booth Competition organized by HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine Consortium (SCRMC). Our students presented their research on stem cells to the judges and the public in Hong Kong Science Park on 26th April, 2014. Noelle Chiong of F.5S and Ravneet Saran of F.5P were the champion team and won "The Best Booth Exhibition Award", while Carmen Yam of F.5A and Tiffany Pau of F.4P were the second runner-up team. They received trophies and certificates. Noelle and Ravneet will be granted a summer internship opportunity with a cash award of up to $6000 for making human brain and heart cells in a stem cell laboratory in HKU. Congratulations! Green Creative Desgin Competition 2014
  On 12th April 2014, Rose Wei of F.3T and Ella Chan of F.3A participated in the Green Creative Design Competition organized by the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. They obtained the 2nd Runner-up prize in the junior secondary level and was each awarded HK $1,500 cash coupon to dine at HKCEC's restaurants, HK $200 book coupon and certificates.   The Peacemakers' Celebration, organized by the UNESCO Hong Kong, was successfully held on 12 April 2014. This event served not only as the highlight of the ‘Peace for All’ Youth Programme but also offered a valuable inter-cultural platform for different nations and ethnic groups to nurture their sense of global harmony. Documentary Competition (「愛回家」短片拍攝比賽)
  Estella Ying (F.5P), Cosette Chan, Hilda Hui, Ivonne Lam, Kathy Wong and Mary Yuen (F.5L) participated in the Documentary Competition (「愛回家」短片拍攝比賽) organized by New Youth Forum Hong Kong and have obtained good results. They produce a short film titled "尋.歸途.歸宿" with their passion and creativity. They have attained the Merit Award and "The most popular video" Award and received $4000 scholarship. Their documentary would be screened in a premiere event and their work would be disseminated to all secondary schools and youth organizations in Hong Kong for reference.   The WAC Junior Athletics Challenge, organized by Watsons Athletics Club, was held at Wan Chai Sports Ground on 6th April, 2014. Kimberly Ma of F.5S was the 2nd Runner-up in A Grade 100m Hurdles event. Hazel Yeung of F. 5S was the 2nd Runner-up in A Grade 100m event. Cheering Team Competition
  Our Sports Day Finals was cancelled due to unstable weather. The Cheering Team competition and Prize-giving Ceremony were held at the school hall on 3rd April, 2014. All F.1 students performed with great enthusiasm and energy during the competition, filling the school hall with unreserved applause. Kenny House won the Best Cheering Team award. Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award
  One of our past students, Aleena Wong Sz Ching of F.6A (2012-2013), received the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) Outstanding Cambridge Learner Award in recognition of her outstanding result in the French Language examination of the Category C Subjects for the June 2013 series. The certificate was presented to her on 1 April 2014. With her excellent comprehension and writing skills, Aleena was able to excel in the challenging French AS Level paper of the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).   On 29th March, 2014, Tiffany Chan, Katherine Lai and Seraph Wu of F.5A presented their project ‘Metallic Rainbow’ in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition (2013-2014) in the category of Science and Technology Invention Works - Chemistry and Material Science (Senior Secondary Section). French singing competition
  On Saturday, 29th March 2014, nine students from F.2A went to the French International School to take part in Les Francophonistes 2014 (a competition celebrating the French language in various countries). Sir Ellis Kadoorie (S) Primary School Sports Day
  On 27th March, 2014, twenty Paulinians assisted teachers at Sir Ellis Kadoorie (S) Primary School to run their Sports Day programme at Wan Chai Sports Ground. These students attended a briefing session by Mr. Loi, PE teacher of Sir Ellis Kadoorie (S) Primary School, on 19th March, 2014. They were then divided into groups and assigned various duties. Teachers of Sir Ellis Kadoorie (S) Primary School were very pleased to have our students assist them in the smooth running of their Sports Day programame. The Fourth PDS Liberal Studies Seminar
  The Fourth PDS Liberal Studies seminar entitled 'Approaches and Pedagogy in Understanding Major Concepts in the Liberal Studies Curriculum ' was held on Wednesday, 26th March 2014 from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Convent School. A total of 12 persons from our school and two partner schools attended the seminar, including 3 teachers from Ching Chung Hau Po Woon Secondary School, 4 teachers from St. Stephen's Girls' College and 5 staff members from our school. Teachers of HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College could not attend the seminar as they had a staff development program in their school on that day, but they had arranged for their materials to be presented at the seminar by a teacher from Ching Chung Hau Po Woon Secondary School. The 50th Hong Kong Schools Dance Festival (2013-2014)
  The 50th Hong Kong Schools Dance Festival (2013-2014), jointly organised by the Hong Kong Schools Dance Association Limited and the Education Bureau, is an annual Inter-school competition that aims to promote dance education in Hong Kong schools. Our school's dance team, comprising the Chinese, Modern, Western and Oriental Dance teams, achieved brilliant results in this year's competition, with a total of 6 Honours awards and 4 Highly Commended awards. Video Conferencing with Bentley Wood High School
  On 19 March 2104, we were excited to have a video conferencing session with the Principal, the ICT co-ordinator and the whole team of Digital Leaders of the Bentley Wood High School. We presented, through the Skype, two of our science projects and two student-made ibooks to our audiences.   The 10th Kanto Finswimming Open Competition, organized by the Chiba United University Universal Sports Club, was held in Chiba City, Japan on 8th March 2014. Flora Leung of F. 3U was the Champion in 25m 30 Seconds Set Time Race (Mixed) and the 1stRunner-up in 50m Surface Monofin event. Visit to United International College
  Six F.5 students went to Zhuhai, China, on 14 March 2014, on a day tour of the United International College (UIC), under the auspices of Rev. Sr. Margaret, and accompanied also by Miss G. Pow, Mrs. C. Cheung, Ms. T. Cheng, and Ms. Jane Cheung, HK Office Manager of United International College. UIC was founded jointly by Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University in 2005. Upon arrival, Dr Edgar Yuen and the student representatives touched us with their heartfelt welcome and took us on a guided campus tour, visiting their modern facilities such as their laboratories, their journalism and communication production studios, their media editing labs, their lecture theatres, and their student dormitories laid out as a cultural village that exudes a warm and inclusive sense of community. The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Hong Kong
  Recently, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Hong Kong, held its 12th CILTHK Essay Competition on the topic 'Sustainable development for maintaining Hong Kong International Airport's status as a leading air cargo hub in the world'. On Saturday, 8th March 2014, six students from our school did an outstanding job at the Award Presentation Ceremony, putting forward in writing, suggestions and ideas on sustainable development related to the Hong Kong International Airport as an air cargo hub. Attending a forum on Constitutional Reform in Hong Kong
  On 7th March 2014, 20 Form 5 students and 3 Liberal Studies teachers attended a forum on Constitutional Reform organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Women. The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mrs. Carrie Lam (GBS, JP), addressed the forum, highlighting the principles and importance of constitutional development in Hong Kong. The Chairperson of the Federation, Prof. Peggy Lam (GBS, OBE, JP), and other members and participants actively offered their views on relevant issues.   The Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship, organized by the Jordan Fencing Federation and the Fencing Confederation of Asia, was held at Amman, Jordan from 7th to 16th March, 2014. The Third Professional Development School Seminar 2013-2014
  The third PDS seminar entitled 'Analysis of Mock Papers Design' was held on Wednesday, 26th February 2014, from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Convent School. A total of 14 persons from our school and three partner schools attended the seminar, including 3 teachers from Ching Chung Hau Po Woon Secondary School, 3 teachers from HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College, 2 teachers from St. Stephen's Girls' College, 5 members of staff from St. Paul's Convent School and 1 from the EDB. Elderly Service by Chinese Opera Singer
  On 24th February, 2014, twelve of our Paulinians, who are Chinese opera singers, visited the residents of the elderly home at Chi Sing Kok (The Immaculate Heart of Mary’s Elderly Home) and performed popular pieces including《香夭》、《幽媾》、《歡樂年年》、《祝福你》for them. 2013/14 Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award
  Bella Chan of F. 5A was one of the eight students who won the "2013-14 Hong Kong Outstanding Students Award", organized by the Youth Arch Foundation. These eight students were selected out of 700 candidates from 170 secondary schools in Hong Kong. Bella was chosen for being an all-round student of good character, with excellent academic achievements, active participation in extra-curricular activities and devotion to community service. Hong Kong Tri-Nations Netball Tournament 2014
  The Hong Kong Tri-Nations Netball Tournament 2014 was held in Kowloon Park Sports Centre from 20th - 23rd February 2014. The participating teams were from Malaysia, Sri Lanka as well as Hong Kong. The Opening Ceremony was held on 21st February and our school’s Dragon Dance team was invited to perform on this spectacular occasion. UK visitors on 17 February
  On 17 February 2014, Mr. Ken Walsh OBE together with 28 Principals from the United Kingdom visited our school to learn more about the education systems in Hong Kong. The Hospitality Team introduced to them the unique curriculum of our school and the all-round achievements of the Paulinians. Our Paulinians presented to them a number of gifted student projects. Some Primary School Principals also visited our Primary Section. They were highly impressed by our state-of-the-art facilities such as the Classroom of the Future, Synergy Corner, Chinese Culture Room and Roof Garden and praised the self-confidence of our students.   The Inter-School Fencing Competition, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation and the Hong Kong Fencing Association, was held at Shun Lee Tsun Sports Centre and Kwun Chung Sports Centre on 16th and 23rd February, 2014 respectively. Debbie Ho of F. 5L was the Champion in the A Grade Epee event. Joyce Yeung of F.6S was 1st Runner-up in the A Grade Sabre event. VIENNA MUSIC TOUR 2014
  From February 3 to February 10, chaperoned by 5 teachers, a batch of 46 Form 1 to Form 5 students from the Symphonic Orchestra and the Junior Choir set off to Austria for the Vienna Music Tour. In the first few days, the students attended music lessons in Brahms Music School in Murzzuschlag. The Junior Choir members were given master classes on vocal training and choral singing while the Symphonic Orchestra members were given master classes on flute, cello, violin and piano. The master classes were designed for small class sizes and our students were given an invaluable opportunity to receive constructive feedback from the instructors. Click here for more information.

Hong Kong Youth Piano Competition 2013
  Amanda Xiang of Form 5T had attained the 4th place in Hong Kong Youth Piano Competition 2013 among approximately 1000 participants. Also, Amanda got the champion in the Hong Kong Piano Open Competition, and was sponsored to hold a concert in the Yuen Long Theatre Recital Hall on 8th February 2014. Congratulations to Amanda! Visit to Joides Resolution Scientific Drillship
  On 27th January 2014, 15 Form Five science students were invited to visit the Joides Resolution Scientific Drillship organised by HKUST. Students were given a 40-minute guided tour on board. Various facilities and scientific technology, ranging from mass spectrometry to chromatography, used for analyzing sediment and rock samples, were explained. Special technology such as the dynamical positioning system for stabilizing the vessel while drilling the seabed, was also introduced to our students. The next expedition of the Drillship is to obtain sediments and rock core samples from the seabed of the South China Sea, in order to analyse the tectonic evolution of the South China Sea. Our visit to the ship was indeed an extraordinary learning experience, and we are honoured to be given this valuable opportunity. Click here for more information.

  After three rounds of stimulating debates between Form 4 and Form 5 classes, the annual Senior Inter-class English Debate Finals, organized by the English Debating Society, was successfully held on 22nd January 2014. The motion was “Whistleblowers do more good than harm in society.” We were honored to have Ms. Audrey Eu, SC, JP, Mr. Abdul Wahab and Dr. Sheilah Hamilton as our adjudicators. Visit to Haeco
  On 18th January, 2014, 19 students from the Aerospace Society visited the Hong Kong Aircraft Engineering Company Limited (HAECO). They were firstly introduced to the day-to-day operation of HAECO and had a deeper understanding about the aircraft engineering and maintenance services. Our students were also given an opportunity to visit the cabin and cockpit of an airbus, and the Van’s aircraft, RV-8. It was an enriching experience and they all had a wonderful time.   On 10th January 2014, members of the All-China Women's Federation (全國婦聯) from China visited our school to learn about girls' education in Hong Kong and Home Economics education in our school. Paulinians introduced the unique curriculum of our school and the achievements of our Home Economics students to them. They were highly impressed by our curriculum and facilities such as the Classroom of the Future, Home Management Room, Model Home, and Synergy Corner. The guests enjoyed traditional Cantonese dim sum, shallow-fried radish cakes and water chestnut cakes, which were prepared by the Home Economics teacher and students, in the Chinese Culture Room.   本年度的中四中五班際中文辯論比賽於十月至一月期間舉行,並在一月八日舉行決賽。經過三個回合的激戰後,中五保和中四德成功躋身決賽。當日的辯題為「直資計劃的推行對香港教育發展利多於弊」。本校有幸邀請到香港大學評議會副主席馮可強先生、香港大學中文學院講師廖舜禧先生及香港直接資助學校議會前主席羅慶琮博士擔任評判。雙方同學都對辯題作出深入透徹的分析,經過一番唇槍舌劍,代表反方的中四德以三比零的票數勝出,而最佳辯論員則由正方中五保的梁晰研同學奪得。 Click here for more information.

HKBU Secondary School Principals' Day
  On 8 January 2014, four teachers visited the Hong Kong Baptist University on her Secondary School Principals’ Day 2014. The main year theme was “Life Brilliant Quote: Inspiring Firs-Year University Experience”. The programme started with the sharing form Dr Mosses Cheng, The Chairman of Education Commission, and the Director of Student Affair and student representative on their first-year experience in relation to their personal growth and inspiration to achieve their life goals. Then, the teachers joined various parallel sessions which included: Science in Entertainment; First-hand Experience in Chinese Medicine Knowledge and Education; Journalism Education: Change and Moving Forward to better understand the some study programmes and the admission criteria of the university. The Dragon & Lion Dance Extravaganza 2014
  The Dragon & Lion Dance Extravaganza 2014 was held in Tsim Sha Tsui on 1st January, 2014. It was a very colorful, thrilling and joyful event, with hundreds of lively dragons, lions and happy Buddhas parading through the streets of Hong Kong to welcome the new year. Mrs. Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR, JP, started this mega event with her opening speech. This was followed by the parade, which started on Canton Road and proceeded to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Avenue of Stars, ending at the Urban Council Centenary Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui. The Friends of Jesus’ Passover
  “The Friends of Jesus’ Passover” (FOJP) is a group of Chinese Catholic youths who come from Chinese communities all over the world and gather together once a year to spread the message of God to overseas Chinese. To commemorate the 15th anniversary, the FOJP held a grand evangelization concert at Queen Elizabeth Stadium on 30th December 2013. 101 students participated in the rehearsal. Fr. Yan addressed our students, emphasizing the fact that evangelization is our Christian duty. We are all called upon to be missionaries and embrace every opportunity to love, serve and sacrifice for the Holy Father. About two thousand people, some of whom were non-Catholics, participated in the concert, which included singing, drama and the sharing of experiences by those of the Catholic faith. Our students enjoyed leading the songs with movement and actions. Most participants were moved by the sharing and some expressed an interest in exploring the faith further. Christmas Caroling
  The annual Christmas Caroling service is the highlight of the school choir’s calendar. As in previous years, on the invitation of the Regal HK hotel, 65 students, accompanied by three teachers, performed at the hotel on 24th and 25th December. They also performed at the Four Seasons HK hotel on 25th December. Their beautiful singing attracted crowds of people who were delighted with their performance. Space museum visit
  On the 19th December, 2013, 20 students accompanied by 2 teachers visited the Hong Kong Space Museum. The activity was jointly organized by the Aerospace society and the Astronomy Society. During the visit, participants had watched a 3D Dome Show "Wildest Weather in the Solar System". Throughout the movie which lasted for 25 minutes, we had had a vivid experience of the inclement weather of the celestial bodies in the Solar system. After watching the movie, we visited the two halls. There we had learnt more about the history and development of space science and discoveries in astronomy. Kimberly Ma of F.5S was the 1st Runner up in Grade A2 100m Hurdles event. Hazel Yeung of F.5S was the 2nd Runner-up in Grade A2 100m event. Martina Chan of F.5T was the 2nd Runner-up in Grade A2 Long Jump event. The 13th Awarding Program for Future Scientists organized by the Ministry of Education the Peoples Republic of China, the China Association for Science and Technology and H. S. Chau Foundation Limited
  The final round of the 13th Awarding Program for Future Scientists (第十三屆「明天小小科學家」獎勵活動) was successfully held in Beijing, from 10th to 17th December 2013. One hundred finalists were selected from 600 representatives from different provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China. They were judged on a written test of their scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment of their personal qualities and a project presentation. Claudia Sham of F.6U received the 3rd Place Award for her project ‘Applied Research in Factors Affecting Maillard Reaction’ after 3 rounds of serious judging. Learning and Teaching Expo 2013 and the 6th Annual Conference of the 21st Century Learning International (21CLHK)
  From 11th to 14th December 2013, 38 of our teachers joined the Expo and the Conference both held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The objective of the Expo is to provide an opportunity for teachers and school leaders to explore educational trends and discover the latest learning and teaching resources and technology. The Expo is jointly organised by Hong Kong Education City and fully supported by the Education Bureau. The main theme of the 21CLHK is “The Digital Learning Imperative” and the conference runs alongside with the Expo. Pearson Edexcel GCE & IAL Seminar
  The seminar was held in our school on 11th December (6 – 8:30 pm) and attended by parents, teachers and students from our school as well as the general public. It proved to be very successful, with detailed information being provided on the changes to the GCE A Level qualification and the new International Advanced Level (IAL) qualification being introduced. Parents raised many relevant questions after the extremely informative presentation by Dr. David Davies. ‘Heart-safe School’ Project - CPR & AED Training for Teachers
  On 9th December 2013, 10 teachers attended a full-day training course in CPR and the operation of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED), organised by the Hong Kong College of Cardiology through the Jockey Club’s ‘Heart-safe School’ project. The project, which aims to develop schools into heart-safe premises, is supported by the Education Bureau and the Department of Health. Through this training course, teachers’ awareness of how the defibrillator can be used to reestablish an effective rhythm in the heart in case of a sudden cardiac arrest was raised.   The 5th Asia Pacific Open and Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championship 2013 organized by the Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia was held at Pusat Akuatik Darul Ehsan, Selangor, Malaysia from 29th November to 1st December 2013. Samantha Cheung of F.3P received the Gold and Silver awards in the Team Free competition and the Duet (Age 13-15) competition respectively. French Speech Competition 2013
  From November 7th to 29th, 24 students from Forms 1 to 5 took part in Annual Hong Kong French Speech Competition organized by AFLE (The Association of French Teachers in Hong Kong and Macau). The results this year were outstanding, with over half the students winning prizes. Altogether, SPCS gained four first places, seven second places and two third places. Students had to learn and perform a poem in French while one student also took part in the Prose Reading Competition and came second. Well done to all the winners and participants! 2013 Hong Kong Island Outstanding Students Selection
  From over a hundred candidates and after two rounds of interviews, Lois Choy of F.6P and Eunice Yiu of F.4S were selected to be among the ten Hong Kong Island Outstanding Students 2013 in the Senior Section and Junior Section respectively by the Hong Kong Island School Heads Association. Candidates were judged on their academic performance, leadership, special talents and involvement in community services. Both winners were awarded a trophy, an 800-dollar book coupon and a free study tour to China in the coming summer holidays. Congratulations! Click here for more information.

The 67th SCAA Inter School Athletic Meet
  The 67th SCAA Inter School Athletic Meet organized by the South China Athletic Association was held at Wan Chai Sports Ground on 24th November and 1st December, 2013. Kimberly Ma of F.5S was the 1st Runner-up in the Grade A 100m Hurdles event. Irena Wong of F.4A was the 1st Runner-up in the B Grade Long Jump event. Christy Mui of F.1T was the 1st Runner-up in the 1500m event and the 2nd Runner-up in the 800m event. Christy Chan of F.2P was the 2nd Runner-up in the Long Jump event. Tiffany Cheung of F.1L and Christy Chan, Beanie Fung and Sheena Yeung of F.2P were the 2nd Runners-up in the 4x100m Relay event. Christy Mui and Vanessa Chan of F.1T, Sheena Yeung of F.2P and Isabel Yam of F.2A were the 1st Runners-up in the 4x400m Relay event. The Overall Position (C Grade) was the 1st Runner-up. Student Conference 2013
  On 23 November 2013, 16 Paulinians were invited to join the Student Conference 2013 organized by Hong Kong Academy of Gifted Education to share their study projects with the participants. Eight study projects were selected for the Conference from our school as shown in the table below and our students presented their papers either in concurrent sessions or in a poster exhibition. In the conference, they met new friends and learned a lot from the one another. They had a meaningful day interacting with their peers. Click here for more information.

The 3rd Moving Images Competition for Secondary Students in Hong Kong organized by youth.gov.hk
  5 groups of our students, who produced short films on ‘waste reduction’, attended the prize presentation ceremony of the 3rd Moving Images Competition for Secondary Students in Hong Kong on 23rd November 2013, in EcoPark, Tuen Mun. Our school won ‘The Active Participation (School) Award’ and our students will be invited to join an education tour. Click here for more information.

Talk on ‘The Concept of Poverty and the Significance of Social Responsibility in Reducing the Poverty Gap in Hong Kong’
  On Wednesday, 20th November 2013, a talk on ‘The Concept of Poverty and the Significance of Social Responsibility in Reducing the Poverty Gap in Hong Kong’ was delivered by renowned speaker, Miss Alvina Chan, who is passionate about helping poor people in Hong Kong. Her motto is ‘Think Cook Save’ and she hopes to deliver the message of love through cooking. Her mission is to serve the community by showing how the food waste from wet markets and corporations can be used to serve the needy. Her innovative ideas certainly made a deep impression on our students! Two teachers from the partner school and two representatives from the Education Bureau also attended the talk. British Council Ipad Training Workshops
  On the 13th and 20th November 2013 the British Council carried out 2 hands on and practical workshops primarily for English teachers that introduced our teachers to some of the basic functions of iPads and how they can be used in a pedagogically sound way in the classroom. The emphasis was on giving the teachers lots of practical ideas on how they could integrate iPads into their teaching in ways that are linked to the curriculum. We also looked at some very useful apps that will help develop learners’ creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication skills. Click here for more information.

Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events 2013
  Our Electronics make Fun team has participated in the Hong Kong Technology & Renewable Energy Events 2013 held on 9 November 2013. Candice Kwok and Scarlett Leung of F.3P obtained the 1st runner up in Solar Cell Model Car Race in Group 1. Amanda So of F.4S, Natalie Mak of F.4U, Gigi Mak of F.3T and Stephanie Yeung of F.3U obtained 3rd runner up in Hand Driven Generator Model Car Race in Group 2. Congratulations to the winners. Visit to SCAD HK
  On 8th November 2013, 16 F.4 and F.5 students visited SCAD HK - The University of Creative Careers. During the visit, students were able to meet the Director of Admission, Ms. Virginia Adair Mathis, who showed them around the campus and told them about student life at SCAD. The day ended with a photography workshop, making the visit a very fruitful one. Click here for more information.
