26th China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest
organized by the China Association for Science and Technology, The Ministry of Education and The Ministry of Science and Technology

Bernice Hung of F.6P participated in the 26th China Adolescents Science and Technology Invention Contest held in Hohhot, Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, China, from 2nd to 8th August, 2011. 351 individual and team projects competed in the contest. Bernice presented her project –“Plain Cellulose?” and her booth attracted a multitude of audiences in the Open Exhibition. She attained the 3rd Place Award and the “Guangdong Science Centre Special Award”. Her prize includes a bronze medal, a cash prize of RMB$1000 and two certificates. Congratulations!


Mathematics Book Report Competition
Celeste Ng (3S), Kathy Wu (3S) and Vanessa Leigh (3P) won the second class prize in the Mathematics Book Report Competition for secondary schools (2010-2011). On 4th July 2011, Celeste Ng and Vanessa Leigh attended the prize-giving ceremony in the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology together with their Form Two Mathematics teacher, Ms. P Kwan. Congratulations!

Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2011
organized by the Innovation and Technology Commission, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, Education Bureau, and Hong Kong Science Museum

The Final Judging cum Award Presentation Ceremony of Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2011 was held on 4 June. Loretta Fan (6P), Bernice Hung (6P), Theodora Lai (6P), Jasmine Ng (6A) and Bertha Wong (6A) won the Championship and the “Best Booth Presentation” Award with their project ‘Plain cellulose?’ in the type of ‘Investigation of Scientific Phenomena or Application of Scientific Theories’ (Senior Division). They received a trophy, Full Year Museum Pass, $10,000 book coupons and certificates. They will also be sponsored to attend an exchange programme in Singapore in mid-August 2011.

由香港中華文化促進中心主辦,及香港直接資助學校議會等協辦的「中國中學生作文大賽」香港賽區比賽(2010-11)。大會從219 間中學的1109 篇文章中評選出100篇優秀作品,並由其中選出金、銀、銅獎。恭賀本校學生趙悅婷(中二保)憑作品<觸摸自己的臉> 及 史佩諺 (中三德) 憑作品<無論你走到哪裡> 獲得銀獎。


Hong Kong Budding Poets Award 2010/11

On Saturday, 21 May, 2011, the Hong Kong Budding Poets Award 2010/11 winners were announced. The school received the exceptional news that Jovita Yeung 5U, was awarded Champion of the Secondary Section (local schools). Jeanine Chuen 6A, got Championship for the Open Section (international schools). Merits went to Christina Choi 6A, for the Secondary Section, and Ariel Lo, 6U, Dora Fung, 6U, Tina Villareal 6U, for the Open Section. Commendation awards were presented to Eugenia Wong 4L, Amber Acosta, 2A, Josephine Wu, 4L and Nicole Leung 6U. The Champions were awarded a Certificate, $600 in Book Coupons and a trophy for their efforts. Interschool Badminton Competition 2010 - 2011
Our school won the Overall Championship in Inter-School Badminton Competition 2010-2011. Our badminton team won the Champion in Grade A, the 3rd Runner-Up in Grade B and the Champion in Grade C. The prize presentation ceremony of the Inter-School Badminton Competition was held at Po Leung Kuk Ngan Po Ling College on 11th May, 2011. Congratulations to all winners!

International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, and Environment) Project Olympiad 2011
organized by the Cosmos Foundation
The fourth I-SWEEEP Olympiad was successfully held in Houston, Texas in United States, from 4 to 9 May, 2011. The science fair brought together 440 top projects from 70 countries and 43 U.S. states to Houston where young researchers presented their innovative projects to take on today’s challenges in energy, engineering, and environment. Being one of the Hong Kong delegates, Stephanie Yeung of F.7P presented her project “Iron ‘sucks’!” in the contest. She attained the Bronze Award in the category of ‘Environment - Senior Secondary Section’ and was presented US $400 scholarship, a bronze medal and a certificate. Congratulations!

Age Group Long Course Swimming Competition
Chelsea Lam of F.1S was the Champion of 200m Breaststroke in 2010-2011 Hong Kong Age Group Long Course Swimming Competition Division 2 (Part 1) which was held in Morse Park Swimming Pool on 7th May, 2011. C ongratulations!

Hoi Tin Annual Swimming Competition
Vikki Cheung of F.1S received the 1st and 2nd Runner-up in 50m Backstroke & Freestyle respectively in Hoi Tin Annual Swimming Competition which was held in Dai Wan Valley Swimming Pool on 2nd May, 2011. Congratulations!

Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools (2010-11)
organized by the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematics Education, Hong Kong Chemical Society, Royal Society of Chemistry and Hong Kong Education City
Loretta Fan, Bernice Hung and Theodora Lai of F.6P together with Jasmine Ng and Bertha Wong of F.6A won the Championship in the Hong Kong Chemistry Olympiad for Secondary Schools 2010-11 with their project titled ‘Plain Cellulose?’. Joint School Windsurfing Competition
Gisselle So of F.1S won the Champion in HK Joint School Windsurfing Competition organized by Windsurfing Association of Hong Kong, and subvented by Leisure and Cultural Services Department on 16th & 17th April, 2011 at Tai Mei Tuk Water Sports Centre. Congratulations!

“Because I am a Girl” Photo Competition and “Inclusive Life – Show Your Different Abilities” Photo Competition

Linda Cheung of F.5U has participated in ”Because I am a Girl” Photo Competition organized by Plan Hong Kong. She won the Champion and Public’s Favorite Award in the Upper Secondary Group with a photo taken during the Summer Trip to Sichuan. The winning photo arouse the public awareness of gender inequality and to promote girls’ rights in developing countries. With the same photo, she won the 1st runner up of the Secondary School Group in “Inclusive Life – Show Your Different Abilities” Photo Competition jointly organized by the Labour & Welfare Bureau and ‘Dialogue in the Dark’. Congratulations to Linda!

Championship of The 7th Fu Hong Society "Best Buddies Hong Kong Movement -- Electric Cooking Competition
Eleanor Lee from F. 4T and Lily Lau from F. 4L are awarded the championship in the 7th Fu Hong Society "Best Buddies Hong Kong Movement -- Electric Cooking Competition" (第七屆 扶康會「最佳老友運動 -- 電能烹飪比賽」). The competition is supported by all Legislative Councillors and The Hong Kong Chef Association each year. This activity aims at promoting healthy cookery, integrating mentally handicapped people into the society and arousing citizens' concern to those people's needs. Congratulations!

Junior Netball League 2011 Spring Competition
Our school's netball team attained the 1st Runner-up in Junior Netball League 2011 Spring Competition organized by Hong Kong Netball Association which was held on 3rd April, 2011 at Wong Chuk Hang Sports Center. Congratulations!

Claudia Cheung of F.6P and Stephanie Chow of F.5P have been nominated awardees of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Prizes, in light of their excellent academic achievements, their good character, their active participation in extra-curricular activities and their devotion to community services. Karate Championships 2011

The Karate Championships 2011 (2011年度空手道大賽) organized by Japan Karatedo Federation Goju-kai (全日本空手道連盟剛柔會-香港誠和會) was held on 27th March, 2011. Samantha Lau was the Champion in Fundamental Section of Girls’ Senior Karate Championships (Age 14 or above) & Free-Fighting Section of Girls’ Junior Karate Championships 2011 (Age 13-14). Samantha Lau also won the 1st Runner-up in Fundamental Section of Mixed Team Karate Championships 2011 (Age 14 or above). Congratulations to Samantha!


Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Invention Competition (2010-11)
organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Loretta Fan, Bernice Hung and Theodora Lai of F.6P presented their project ‘Plain cellulose?’ in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Invention Competition (2010-11) in the category of Science and Technology Invention Works - Chemistry and Material Science (Senior Secondary Section). They attained the 2nd Place Award, receiving a trophy, certificates and a scholarship of $2000. Congratulations!

Chelsea Lam of F.1S won the Champion of 50m Freestyle, 100m Breaststroke and 200m Backstroke in 2010-2011 Age Group Short Course Swimming Competition Division 2 (Part 3) which was held in Shing Mun Valley Swimming Pool on 26th March, 2011. Congratulations!

9th CILTHK Essay Competition

Recently, The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, Hong Kong held their 9th CILTHK Essay Competition with this year’s topic ‘How to Develop Hong Kong into a Distinctive Cruise Hub’. There were 72 English entries this year. Three students from our school did an outstanding job putting forth suggestions and ideas on making Hong Kong into an even better destination for cruise ships. On Saturday, 19 March, 2011, at the Award Presentation Ceremony, Divya Verma, 4L, received Merit for her essay, How to Develop Hong Kong into a Distinctive Cruise Hub, while Serena Chow, 4L, took 1st Runner-Up for her essay entitled, ‘IT is the Key: Hong Kong As a Distinctive Hub”. We’re very happy to announce that Tiffany Chan, 2P, received the Championship for her essay which bears the same theme title. All students received a trophy and certificate. Serena received a $500 Book Coupon and Tiffany walked away with top prize – a $1000 Book Coupon. Well done to all participants!

HK Electric Smart Power Campaign Launching Ceremony 2011
Recently, our school has joined the Smart Power Campaign of the HK Electric. It aimed to promote low carbon living among the public. The launching ceremony of the campaign was held on 17th March, 2011. During the ceremony, prizes were presented to the winners of theLow Carbon App Writing Competition, which was held in September to November 2010. Yolanda Wong of F. 6A was awarded the 2nd runner-up in the secondary section. Our school had also received the best participation award. Congratulations!

The Inter-School Athletics Championship 2011

The Inter-School Athletics Championships organized by Hong Kong School Sports Federation was held on 2nd, 8th and 11th March, 2011 in Wan Chai Sports Ground. Martina Chan of F.2P obtained Champion in C Grade Long Jump. Regine Yan of F.3P obtained 1st Runner-up in B Grade Discus. The C Grade Relay Team obtained 3rd Runner-up in 4X100m Relay. 11th Lions International Youth Exchange Scholarship Essay Competition

The 11th Lions International Youth Exchange Scholarship Essay Competition was held recently. It involved the submission of an essay on the topic LOWER CARBON, GREENER FUTURE. The students whose entries were short listed then had to sit down for an interview with the organizers. This year, for the first time, students from mainland China chosen by the Chinese Ministry of Environmental Protection also competed in this contest. On Sunday, 27 February, 2011, the 15 finalists from Hong Kong and China each gave a power point presentation in Kowloon City Plaza. We’re proud to say that on this day, Renee Yeh, 6L received the championship! Her prize includes a Full Exchange Scholarship to a city in North America, Europe or Australia with return air ticket included. At the Award Presentation Ceremony, Scarlett Ho, 6U, proudly received a Distinction for her essay. Read Renee’s essay here. Well done to both girls!

The Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletic Meet 2011 organized by the Hong Kong Amateur Athletic Association was held on 29th January, 2011 in Wan Chai Sports Ground. Melissa Law of F.5A obtained Champion in A Grade Long Jump. Mona Fung of F.3T obtained 1st Runner-up in B Grade Javelin. Congratulations to all winners!


24th National Chemistry Olympiad and Winter Camp
organized by Xiamen University, Fujian Province Chemical Society and Chinese Chemical Society

Loretta Fan, Bernice Hung, Theodora Lai of F.6P together with Jeanine Chuen, Jasmine Ng and Bertha Wong of F.6A participated in the 24th National Chemistry Olympiad and Winter Camp held in Xiamen, Fujian, from 5 to 11 January, 2011. 191 students from 32 different provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China participated in the competition. Theodora attained the 3rd Place Award and she was presented a Bronze medal and a certificate. Congratulations!

The Singapore Youth International 2010 organized by Singapore Badminton Association was held from 13-19 December 2010. Olivia Yuen of F.5L came 3rd Place in Girls’ Double – under-17 in the Singapore Youth International 2010. Congratulations!


2010 - 2011 Age Group Short Course Swimming Competition
Chelsea Lam of F.1S was the Champion of 50m Butterfly stroke and 100m Backstroke in the 2010-2011 Age Group Short Course Swimming Competition - Division three (Part 1) for age 11 to 12 years old which was held on 11th December 2010. She was also the Champion in 200m Freestyle of the 2010-2011 Age Group Short Course Swimming Competition - Division Two (Part 1) which was held on 8th January 2011. Congratulations!

Inter-School Swimming Championships 2010 - 2011
Agnes Wan of F.6A was the 3rd Runner-up in Grade A 50m Butterflu Stroke in the Inter-School Swimming Championships 2010-2011 which was held on 15th December 2010. Congratulations!


Inter-School Fencing Competition 2010 - 2011

The Inter-School Fencing Competition, jointly organized by Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation and Hong Kong Fencing Association, was held on 4th & 5th December, 2010. Joyce Yeung of F.3S and Debbie Ho of F.2L won the Champion in B Grade Sabre Section and C Grade Epee Section respectively. Ruby Kwan of F.5U won the 1st Runner-up while Chloe Kam of F.5S won the 2nd Runner-up in A Grade Sabre Section. Kelly Ho of F.3U won the 2nd Runner-up in B Grade Foil Section. Jocelyn Wong of F.1L won the 2nd Runner-up in C Grade Epee Section. In the Overall Team Competition (Epee Section), Debbie Ho of F.2L, Grace Yu of F.3T and Kelly Ho of F.3U won the 3rd Runner-up. Congratulations to all the winners!

The All Hong Kong Jing Ying Badminton Tournament 2010 - 2011
The All Hong Kong Jing Ying Badminton Tournament was held on 5th December 2010. Vivian Fung of F.1P and Olivia Yuen of F.5L won the 1st Runner-up in the Secondary Girls Doubles. Olivia Yuen of F.5L also won the 1st Runner-up in Secondary Girls Singles. Congratulations!


Inter-School Badminton Competition 2010 - 2011

The Inter-School Badminton Competition Finals (Grade A and B) was held on 4th December, 2010. Valerie Fung of F.3T, Clara So of F.4T, Andre Cheung of F.4P, Eunice Cheng of F.5P, Olivia Yuen of F.5L, Tiffany Tsui of F.5L and Joyce Lee of F.5U won the Champion in A Grade. Vivian Liu of F.2S, Adabella Pool of F.3S, Fedora Kwok of F.3T, Mona Fung of F.3T, Suki Cheung of F.3T, Phoebe Lo of F.4S and Hayley Keung of F.4A won the 3rd Runner-up in B Grade. 2010 Hong Kong Island Outstanding Students Selection
From over a hundred nominations, Katherine Lam of F.4A has been selected as one of the ten winners of the 2010 Hong Kong Island Outstanding Students Selection (Junior Form) organized by the Hong Kong Island School Heads Association and Hong Kong Island District Councils. Nominees were judged on their academic performance, character, involvement in social services and attitude towards life. The prize presentation ceremony, officiated by the President of Legislative Council, Hon. Tsang Yok-sing, was held on 4 December, 2010. All winners are invited to join an exchange tour to Beijing during the Christmas holidays. Congratulations!

The 10th Awards for Little Scientists of Tomorrow
organized by the Ministry of Education the People's Republic of China, the China Association for Science and Technology and H. S. Chau Foundation Limited

The Final Judging of the 10th Awards for Little Scientists of Tomorrow (第十屆「明天小小科學家」獎勵活動) was successfully held in Beijing, from 17 to 23 November 2010. Students are judged on a written test on scientific knowledge, an integrated assessment on personal quality and a project presentation. After 3 rounds of serious judging, Stephanie Yeung of F.7P was ranked top 15 among 581 representatives from different provinces, cities and autonomous regions of China with her project ‘Iron “sucks”!’. Stephanie won the 1st Place Award, receiving a certificate and a scholarship of RMB ¥20,000. An extra RMB ¥20,000 was presented to the school as recognition for her support.


Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletics Meet 2010

The Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletics Meet organized by the HKAAA was held on 20th and 21st of November, 2010 at the Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground. Rachel Cheong of F.5S was the Champion in A Grade High Jump. Melissa Law of F.5A was the 2nd Runner-up in A Grade Long Jump. Sharon Ng of F.5L was the 2nd Runner-up in A Grade 100m Hurdles. Martina Chan of F.2P was the Champion in both C Grade High Jump and Long Jump events. Tiffany Ip of F. 2P was the 1st Runner-up in Discus event.


Zespri Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards 2010
 
Samantha Lau of Form 3P received the 3rd Quarter of Zespri Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards 2010. This award is presented on a quarterly basis, which aims to recognize the local talented young athlete who has attained outstanding achievement on sports. The Presentation Ceremony was held on 4th November, 2010 at the Hong Kong Sports Institute. Samantha and other Hong Kong Team athlete were invited to have lunch with Mr. Tsang Tak-shing, the Secretary for Home Affairs, on last Tuesday (9th November, 2010) at the Hong Kong Sports Institute to share their experience on sports training.

Hong Kong Karatedo Youth Games 2010

Samatha Lau of F.3P was awarded the Championship in the Hong Kong Karatedo Youth Games 2010 organized by the Karatedo Federation of Hong Kong, China Limited on 31st October, 2010 at the Kowloon Park Sports Centre. Congratulations!


Australian National Chemistry Quiz
organized by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute and the Hong Kong Association for Science and Mathematic Education

Thirty-six of our F.6 and F.7 students received 10 High Distinction, 17 Distinction and 9 Credit awards in the 2010 Australian National Chemistry Quiz (Senior Division) in October 2010. Claudia Cheung (6P), Krystal Tsang (6P), Ting Ting Chang (7A) and Prudence Li (7A) were ranked top 10% in Hong Kong and they were presented the High Distinction certificates. Loretta Fan (6P) and Theodora Lai (6P) were ranked top 3% in Hong Kong and top 800 students among 115,012 entries from 1409 schools from 14 countries. They were presented the High Distinction certificates and the “Award of Excellence” plaques. Congratulations!


TCAA Junior Athletic Championship and HK Junior Age Group Athletic Meet (Race 2) 2010

The TCAA Junior Athletic Championship organized by TCAA was held on 3rd October 2010 in the Wanchai Sports Ground. Chole Kam of 5S was the Champion in A Grade 800m. For Grade C competition, Tiffany Ip of 2P was the 1st Runner-Up in Shot Put, Martina Chan of 2P and Jasmine Lam of 2L were the 2nd Runner-Up in Long Jump and 100m Hurdles respectively.

In the Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletic Meet (Race 2) 2010 organized by HKAAA at the Wanchai Sports Ground on 9th & 10th October, 2010. Victoria Chow of 4P was the Champion in B Grade High Jump. For C Grade competition, Martina Chan of 2P and Hazel Yeung was the Champion in Long Jump and 100m Hurdles respectively.

Rachel Cheong of 5S, Sharon Ng of 5L, Jasmine Chan of 5U and Cathy Chau of 5P also participated in the 4x100m Invitation Relay of Heep Yunn School Annual Sports Day on 11th October, 2010 in the Wanchai Sports Ground and obtained the 2nd runner-Up. Congratulations!

Division TWO Age Group Long Course Swimming Competition & Tai Po Swimming Competition

Chelsea Lam of F.1S was the Champion of 50m Backstroke in Division TWO Age Group Long Course Swimming Competition 2010 - 2011 which was held in Tseung Kwan O Swimming Pool on 11th September, 2010. She was also the 2nd Runner-up of 50m Backstroke as well as 200m Individual Medley in the Tai Po Swimming Competition 2010 - 2011 which was held in Tai Po Swimming Pool on 19th September, 2010. Congratulations!


Eastern District Age Group Swimming Competition, Tsuen Wan District Age Group Swimming Competition & Southern District Age Group Swimming Competition

Chelsea Lam of F.1S won the 1st Runner-up of 50m & 200m Backstroke and the 2nd Runner-up of 100m Backstroke in the Eastern District Age Group Swimming Competition which was held in Victoria Park Swimming Pool on 12th September, 2010. She was also awarded the 1st Runner-up of 50m Backstroke, the 1st Runner-up of 200m Individual Medley, and the 2nd Runner-up of 100m Backstroke in the Tsuen Wan District Age Group Swimming Competition which was held in Shing Mun Valley Swimming Pool on 5th September, 2010. Also, she received the 1st Runner-up of 100m Backstroke in Southern District Age Group Swimming Competition which was held in Pao Yue Kong Swimming Pool on 18th July, 2010. Congratulations!


Skate Asia 2010

Sidonia Lai of F.1U took part in Skate Asia 2010 which took place in Hangzhou, China, from 8 to 15 August, 2010. She achieved Third Place in Freestyle and Surprise Freestyle competitions. Congratulations!


Osaka Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association Drawing Competition

Sheryl Leung of F.1U won the Silver Prize in a drawing competition organized by the Osaka Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association in August 2010. Congratulations!


2010 Hong Kong Youth Drawing Competition

Sharon Chan of F.1U attained Distinction in the Western Drawing Section in the 2010 Hong Kong Youth Drawing Competition organized by HKU Space. Congratulations!
